We are having a speech contest at our high school tomorrow. One student's speech topic: Using foul mops is a foul practice.

At my school, the girls clean the restrooms daily with mops. The are supposed to rinse them out, but apparently, some girls do not. This gets bad, because the same mops are later used to clean the classrooms.

Kind of gross to think of, but an interesting topic for a speech contest.

What's dirtier? That, or a floor covered in spit and ramyeon broth.

Yes, but if you are thinking that the girls don't pee on the floor, you'd be correct, BUT we have a mens bathroom, and I know for a fact some of the ajussis miss. hahahhah Razz

For a wannabe 'advanced' country, hygenic standards here are atrocious. What will it take to get hot water, soap and paper towels in every public washroom in this land? I suppose that will be the day when guys stop spitting in ashtrays. An unfortunate confluence of the previous occupying powers: Chinese rudeness combined with a Japanese sense of superiority.

And garbage cans.... don't forget those!

So far, my experience has been that when a public garbage can gets filled up with tons of trash (because there isn't another one within 2 blocks) the Koreans just get rid of the garbage can entirely.

They don't seem to think, "Wow, we need more garbage cans!"

Rather, they seem to think, "Gee, this garbage can needs emptying too much -- let's get rid of it!"

Do they have hot water, soap and paper towels in every public toilet where you come from? Where I come from public toilets get nasty.

Here at least there are toilets in every large building even if they do smell.

Men's toilets almost never seem to have soap in them in any country I've been to. That's one of my pet peeves - that only women are deemed worthy of soap apparently.

Oh by the way, it's not just the guys who spit in ashtrays.

Seems kind of ironic to go on a crusade for pristine ashtrays!

I remember at the Megamall in Manila, they didn't have seats on the toilets -- just rims.

Never could figure out why that was???
