To do my part in Wifey's New Economic Plan (we're not poor -- not that there's anything wrong with being poor, except for maybe being a little dirty, and smelling a little raunchy...and even then it's rarely the poor person's fault, I think --, we're actually doing quite well, thanks for asking) I have decided to stop buying 1L bottles of Jack Daniels twice per month. This decision was my own. Really. It is not what my Silent Protest thread is about. Really. I figured that the money saved could be put to better use.
I have yet to figure out what that better use will be, but I'm sure it'll be a dinger. Maybe I'll start "saving for the future." No time like the present, right?
Anyway, because I need something alcoholic to help me sleep at night (sad but true), and I want to save as much as possible, I figured "why not give soju a spin?" It's cheap as hell.
Wifey was VERY enthusiastic about this self-decision. I was a little frightened, to tell the you truth, like a kid forced to take medicine he doesn't think will taste too purdy. And soju doesn't taste too purdy. It tastes like backwashed vomit.
I really don't deserve this infernal liquid after a hard day's work. I need fire, not the alcoholic equivalent of a moldy sandwich.
*expletive*

ahhh the firewater of choice soju
comes in a variety of %'s the little wimpy 22%, the slightly rugged 30% the manly 35%(my poison of choice) and the kick your ass 55%
Mixed with soda or juice it takes on all the qualities of vodka.
Drink enough of it and you dont realise how bad off you are until you stand up.......and fall down
Oh yes the dream effects can be quite interesting....have you ever dropped acid |

Maybe Baekseju would be better. I find it has more flavor.
Your own still? |

Gee,
What can a guy say? You need a drink every night to get to sleep? Ouch. I'll go out on a limb and say you have ALOT of stress at work, yes? Perhaps? I did something like this for 2 months, because of working conditions, stress, etc. I got a new and better job, and went back to my usual (and reasonable) drinking habits. I try to exercise regularly too, bought an exercise bike to use. Actually do use it too. Before the new job though, my wife was really worried, and I was too. Drinking every night (weekends too Sparkles??) is a bad sign, especially if you are the only person drinking in the place. Might want to consider making a life style change. Hope that you take this in a positive way, as it was meant.
PS: I was drinking 2 beers a night, which went from the small cans to the large ones over the course of time. Think you might be using less than that though. |

Thanks wylde, for your insight into the matter.
Seriously, no one thinks drinking every night is a problem?

It's a problem maybe,
but one or two drinks a day isn't bad really. Try red wine.
Sparkles needs a solution, though. |

Maybe Sparkles can mix it up a bit.
Monday -- Makkoli
Tuesday -- Tequila
Wednesday -- Whiskey
Thursday -- ?
Friday -- ?
Saturday --Soju
Sunday --Soju
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what he could drink Thursdays and Fridays; maybe those could be recuperation days? Or if anyone has some alliterative suggestions... |

If I'm really having trouble sleeping I have wine. I enjoy it a lot more than soju. Although... when I'm having some BBQ I need soju or beer. I love soju when I'm having my gogi. |

I'm not sure. Honestly. I've had insomnia ever since junior high. Back then, I was popping Gravol to help me sleep.
I don't really have work-related stress, either -- it's more like "no free time" related stress. My desire to relax with a few drinks after a long day, coupled with my sporadically-occuring insomnia (I rarely drink on weekends, because, then, I don't have to worry about waking up early the next morning) is reason enough for me to have a few. I'm never hung over, by the way. I don't drink enough (though I used to, back in the prehistoric era of 2000/2001).
I suppose any remedy for sleep or stress, apart from excercising rigorously and homeopathic crap, is likely to warrant accusations of an addiction. But rest assured, if you came here to chastise others about the dangers of alcohol consumption, you really, REALLY came to the wrong place.

No kidding
Just wanted to make sure you were okay. Hard to work around getting up worries, had those too. I just gave up caring about getting up early. Take care. |
