| Well I've been accepted at Macquarie and they're giving me 4 credit points for my CELTA. I guess I'll be drinking a lot less and reading a lot more in a couple of months. |
Is that an online thing? If so, can I have the details of it please?
Thanks. |

| Whatever you do do not take LING946 - Leading and Managing Language Programs. The professor is a twit, the material is boring, and there are a ton of errors in the course materials. |
Which courses would you recommend? |

SLA (ling912 I think) is good, but that first essay nearly ripped the nuts right off of me. |

Yeah me too, but it is required and you have no choice anyhow... My other elective course is going to be pragmatics. I'm taking it this fall and cannot remember the unit code. after that I start work on my dissertation. |

It's required for the MAppLing (TESOL) but not for the MAppLing. |

Zed, I didn't realize that.
Has anyone taken the Pragmatics course? I'm looking to get a good supplementary text this summer and get ahead of the course if you have taken this course please let me know what the assigned text is so I do not buy it. Recommendations appreciated. |

I just finished my M.A. Applied Linguistics from USQ through distance education and applied for a university job in Taiwan just to see what would happen.
This is the response I got back from the hiring committee at the university - I am so angry that some schools and countries are refusing to recognize Distance M.A. degrees - $15, 000 CDN later!

"We must follow The Ministry of Education guidelines for faculty employment, especially regarding the verification of degrees.
The MOE stipulates that the master's degree may not include more than 1/3 of the credits earned via distance-learning.
The bulk of the credits must be earned in residence, and at a minimum the master's degree candidate must be in the country where the degree-granting institution is conducting classes for not less than 9 months.
Therefore, your master's degree doesn't meet the criteria." |
