I could give notice anytime and say another month is enough. My life has not been real happy of late. I drink too much. Not much of a life really. The boss understands after an "experience" today at the school. We talked. She knows I am freaked out. I feel I am a fragile character psychologically (emotionally etc..) so I'm not sure yet of my decision. Perhaps a good steady friend or two could buoy me through this place. But mainly I don't know. Maybe. I'll try a bit longer and see.

Resisting the urge to go off the edge Wink

(sorry...........another drunk post)

Me too.

I am going though - and soon.

I am rubbing along wuite ok. I hardly drink and I have nice students and several friends now among ex-students.

But working here aint all that hot, really.

If you have somewhere to go and still feel the same in a few weeks - then jump ship and don't look back.

But - try to reduce the drinking. Get a more balanced lifesyle. make a few friends and just try to not rush the decision. That's what I did and I am out the door soon - but I wasn't too hasty and am glad of that.

One thing I found useful about living in a foreign country is that many of my normal ways of setting up life to make things easy for myself were not available so I came face to face with some things I didn't like about myself, such as my bad temper, which I had formerly excused myself for. So if you're unhappy you can quit, but if there's stuff about yourself you're unhappy with, such as your drinking, you'll still be the same when you go back home unless you take the opportunity to change.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Margaret

I'm playing out the string on my contract and some things are starting to annoy me. The kindergartens especially.... But I find that exercise really helps. Eliminates some stress, gives me energy, and helps me sleep. You might be a little late in your contract to get a gym pass but see if you can't go for a run or something like that.

I'm pretty close to going off the edge... I've even had students remarking on me having gray hairs these days.

In Korea I first noticed that my hairline is creeping northwards. Could be the bad water, the kids, the pollution, who the hell knows. I'll be 24 in August and I'm glad I'm going back to Canada to preserve what's left of my hair.

I was two seconds away from jumping on a plane 2 weeks ago...

Shocked I UNDERSTAND STANDING ON THE EDGE Shocked

I don't get these people half of the time.

I was having problems in my school with the FEMALE teachers...talking about me while I'm standing there and talking crap about me with the students and I heard about it...

Can you imagine this happening in your home land? I mean I know that in small town Korea these people have their heads screwed on backwards but they get to go home to their families and I get to go home to a STUPID KOREAN APT. to sit on my squishy toilet seat with water spraying up at my bum.

You know?!

Unfortunately everyone loses it here. It's called Culture Shock and it ain't pretty. And it really isn't helped if you have a crappy job, like kindergarten, and a crappy boss.

Push through it, it's worth it in the end if you can save some money.

I think a great deal of people get on the edge here and there. I 've been on there a few times and I feel like I'm there again. There are a lot of things that just don't fit us here but then again there are a lot of things we also enjoy too. I just try to look at the good side and hold on to see it through, funny thing is once I'm there I think I will stay longer and go through it all over again.

*** There should be a warning label about Korea and it's drinking and smoking. It's cheap and almost everyone is doing it, just be careful that you don't get sucked in

I found when I was on the edge it was best to find something to do with my time...rather then drink. I am definately prone to alcoholism so I try and pace myself on the drinks here.

Anyway go for a hike, buy a puzzle (i know this one sounds really lame but hey its actually fun). i definately agree on the exercise. Buy a DVD player or a computer (electronics take the pain away). Just don't sit at home and wonder what you are doing here. <---this is the thing that is going to kill you in the end Negetivity!

You could try going to the gym and getting those endorphins pumping through your body. That will make you feel much better (and you will feel that you have truly deserved that drink).

It makes you healthier and happier. I haven't done it so far in Korea - but then advice is like a fundamental orifice...
