Korean womens' clothing is horrid, cutesy and childlike or built for ajumas- nothing in between. All I want are shirts without ruffles bows, or large patterns, and pants hemmed to the propper length. By the way, I get complimented on my clothes all the time, by foreigners and Koreans

Lewisham is not very nice, a bit pikey, somewhat dangerous, and full of dirty Saff-East London MONKERS* in Lycra. Nobody really dresses well there, particularly the patrons of the Royal British Legion. But some of the foreigners in Korea make these same very patrons look like GQ centrespreads in Allessandrini couture.

Shocked first, i was disappointed that seoul was still so dirty everywhere i went and i stayed in kangnam mostly. i don't know the name of the road but it's the one going south from teheran-ro when you get out of sun-reung(?spelling) subway station, near jin-sun middle school, man, was is littered all over and vomits everywhere. and street vendors were selling things that ought to give one food poisoning right there next to all that crazy traffic. i had imagined seoul to be cleaner than when i visited five years ago as media only shows cleaner areas through k-dramas and such.

secondly, i didn't see any good looking man or woman. you guys said people dress nice and put on a ton of make-up, but as a woman myself, i thought the women's attires were tacky if not gaudy at best. almost half the women had some signs of cosmetic surgery gone wrong with their eyelids or their noses. in fact all the people i saw in the subway car
were not what you would call attractive even a slightest bit.

thirdly, there is absolutely nothing to buy. there are two types of goods for sale in korea. either they are made in korea, cheap baubles with no practical use, or they are foreign imports that are priced four times what they sell for here at Target in the States. and also what kills me is that the majority of the stores were selling the same "goods", e.g. cell phone gadgets. even in insadong, there was nothing i thought was worth my $.

how do you guys survive there??????

You speak the truth. And i don't know how we survive. Don't listen to all the aapologists/defenders on here- they always play devils advocate. Seoul sucks...the reason we stay are many and varied- and nothing to do with the fantastic shopping.

Maybe to avoid flipping burgers, rapier?

To survive, I usually buy a ship container and bring everything I need for an entire year. That includes beautiful women, cars, technological gadgets, books, clothes, etc. That way, I never have to leave my little bubble and do anything in KOREA. Twisted Evil

Please don't mention Lewisham! I was born in Beckenham and would rather lick a public toilet than visit that part of S.London again.

Anyway back to the thread: Seoul seems pretty grand to me - it's cleaner than most Asian cities especially if you include anywhere in China. The street food is excellent, people don't stare at you, getting mugged is very unlikely unless you're stupid.

If you think Seoul is bad try living in any of China, or Lewisham for that matter.
