| Homer, when I said "From the mouths of babes" I was refering to your statement that I'm "never wrong" ... they are your words, I've never said I'm never wrong. Apology accepted, I hope the white envelope is on the way, and I sincerely hope to consider investing in some remedial reading classes, for the sake of your students ... |

K, I really don't understand the selective reasoning of some people.
Yes, teaching without a degree is illegal. So, lets ignore EVERYTHING else, and ship this guy off because he broke the law.
Fine.
Oh, and by the way, about three quarters of all the teachers here, you have to go too....after all, teaching privates is illegal. Toodaloo!
Wow, Korea sure cleared out fast!
As for the whole "He got caught, he should face the music"; fine, true enough then. But, remember, the only reason that privates work is that people respect each other enough not to rat each other out.
I know about a dozen teachers who do privates. I don't like a couple of them, for various reasons. BUT I would never dream of calling immigration on these guys! Why? Because I don't screw people I dont like for outside reasons. Immigration is a serious thing. To throw it out cuz your pissed is petty and vendictive. |

Ya got me there, pilgrim.
Let me rephrase myself: All foreign English teachers are required by law to possess a degree from a 3 or 4 year university. |

I think the point is that this guy tried to get pass Mankind with a fake degree. I think Mankind has better things to do than to get jerked around by some liar. Immigration is a serious thing and so is trying to pawn off a fake degree in my opinion.
(By the way, I think its odd that some guy you don't know should get coddled because he deserves a chance to blah blah blah but an illegal alien in your respective countries would probably get no support from you guys whatsoever....but that is a bit off topic...)
As for privates, I know practically nothing about this except from what I've read about it on here. With that disclaimer in mind, let me say this...If you get busted teaching privates that is on the teacher's head and possibly the school's. But if Mankind hired this guy and he gets busted that would be on Mankind as well (at least a good possibility). I would rather save my own ass over some liar anyday. That may make me heartless but I wasn't put on this earth to help out every liar that falls in my path. |

Well, I am tripling my post count by responding to thread post, but oh well...this issue speaks to me.

Off topic, un-informed, and border-line insulting...you don't know what we are like, and view points we would stand for, so please don't presume us close-minded.
To keep this short: I never suggested Mankind hire the guy. I just saud there was no need to call in immigration.

Mankind is responsible for filling a position. Unfortunately, the process of hiring often takes long for ANY position because the person in charge has to check into potential candidates and determine their worth. If everyone simply told the truth, it would make life much simpler.
"Hey, are you fully qualified and responsible enough for this job?"
"Y...well, actually no. I feel a little nervous and under-qualified. Sorry, I shouldn't have applied."
"Well, that's all. Have a nice day then."
The fact that this took considerable amounts of time on Mankind's part meant that he was doing his job well, and thoroughly screening. Unfortunately, hiring people does mean listening to alot of lies and BS.

All you need to know for this discussion is that privates are illegal from immigrations perspective; punishable the same way as working without a Visa.

First of all, Mankind is NOT going to hire this guy. The debate is whether or not Mankind should roast the guy. EVEN if someone does hire him, if the degree went through and passed immigration (unlikely) there is very little likelyhood the school would be held responsible. If it fooled immigration, who are they to be any wiser? |

My computer keeps screwing up when I try to post to this thread, so I will keep it short and sweet. I did not try to insinuate that you would be a callous bastard for any other illegal alien. I am just pointing out that illegal aliens and illegal activities are not often given the O.K. by people who might be affected by it. If I insulted you, I apologize.
I prefer to watch my back as oppose to taking one in the ass for some guy I don't know from Moses. What he did is illegal, if the penalty is deportation, let him have it. I have no interest in letting people take no responsibility for their actions. In the end, this guy could only blame himself. Noone forced him to bring a fake diploma to Mankind.
You and I do not agree and that is fine with me. You, I think are too kind. And I would imagine I'm coming off as heartless. But hey, I'm just sticking to my principles.
So on that merry note, I'm bowing out of this battle and the flag of the People's Republic of CanadaCommando can proudly wave.... Or something

Actually this was a big part for me. If we get caught with this guy, we get a nice big fine. Thats one of the main reason why it bothered me. Do a private only you pay. A little different to me.

No I didn't hire him. As for the guy, he has passed through immigration twice before with this fake degree. I have copies of his degree and transcripts and must say they look top notch. I know the school he is finishing at now. My position was for him to do after. Thats why I wondered about calling them and leaving it to them.
What I decided
I took the option most voted on. Not because of that (I was actually just really curious as to what others thought about this.) The reason is simply that I think the less you talk to immigration the better. Knowing them they would start spying on my school looking for more illegals. I figured it could make trouble for me in the end. I figure I can always let his school know in the future if I think its right. Now I'm just not sure. I know I'd want to know, but I know some people wonldn't. So for now I stand pat.

Hey, that means our wages will really go up (those of us who are not teaching privates, and have legit credentials), not such a bad idea!
I don't think I could report someone, but I may let him think that I might, and let him figure out the best thing to do. |

| It's simple, don't hire, and don't contact immigration, it's not your business to get him into trouble. The only connection he has to you is if you gave him the job. Assuming that doesn't happen, he has nothing to do with you. |

Mate I think you handled the situation perfectly. In the end you have to make a decision which will have the least repercussions on yourself. That is fair enough in my book.. |
