the thing that I loved the most was standing out in a crowd and no-one noticing. you could people watch for hours and never see the same person twice. you could walk for blocks and never be alone.
it was quite cool..
I come from a big city.. I was really surprised at how big Seou was!

I noticed mango juice is oddly cheap here. Less than $3 for a 1 litre bottle. In Canada, you'd pay triple that. I drink the stuff all the time now.

Unfortunately, that's because it's mostly not really mango juice. If you look at the ingredients label, you'll notice that it's mostly corn syrup and water, with some mango juice and pulp added for flavor. Still tasty, though!

I love the public transportation. I really became aware of that when there was a bus strike last week, and getting around by taxi was actually affordable, even if a bit more expensive than the busses. Living here without a car is really easy.

I love my car and the freedom it brings to me. Despite being a financial burden, it has allowed me to see so much more of the counrty in the few months that I have had it than in the year that preceeded. I can go on day trips that would have been impossible or nearly so before it. Just got back from a day trip today. Nearly every week I get out of Seoul for a weekend trip or a day trip. It re-energizes me and allows me to see the beautiful parts of Korea (as well as the many abysmal hell holes that call themselves tourist destiniations). Anyway, I love the public transit here but don't think I could back to my car-less days...

that people take their shoes off before entering a private building. i also love the temples, the neighboring mountain behind Yonsei U. in Sincheon, and (of course) my husband and his family.

One of the few compliments I've seen on beaches. I'll have to visit that island.

my thoughts exactly. i'm looking forward to seeing more of SK's beaches.

My favourite things about Korea and what I have gained from being here:

1.) My favourite thing about Korea is definitely my wife

2.) personal growth - I am learning slowly how to be more Korean. As this relates to me is that I don't complain and argue everything so much anymore. Sometimes, it is easier just to let things slide a bit and do the real fighting when it's an important battle and one that you can actually win. I guess you could say that I am learning patience.

3.) Generousity - I like to treat my friends and in-laws whenever I am able. Being generous among family and friends is standard with Koreans.

4.) Triangle kimbab is definitely good!

5.) Mango soju - *beep* soju is YUUUUUMMY!

i love this post, #s 2 and 3 especially. i'll have to give mango soju a try. Smile

Actually it's c*ocktail soju and you can usually get it in mango, apricot, lemon, orange, and strawberry flavours. If you spent your entire first year praising the gods of the toilet bowl and having no recollection of what had transgressed the night before due to regular soju, you may like this alternative.

What do I like about Korea, aside from the money? I like the guy who's going to put the final exit stamp in my passport. Anything else I want can be gotten better, cheaper or faster elsewhere.
