Was Dave's down for a couple days, or what? I couldn't get on. Any clue?

At least it's back. Pretty obvious that it was down for awhile as there is no new posts since Monday or Tuesday.

Thank gawd. I was getting Dave's withdrawal symptoms: a nervous tick, itchy typing fingers, and pent-up anxiety about being in Korea. Those can all be purged now.

Any clue as to when the search function will return, if ever?

Yes. "Soon". For now, the "View posts since last visit/View your posts/View unanswered posts" won't work, either.

Okay, when do we find our why the board was down? Why were the Korean board only open to mods for the last twelve hours? So what happened!

Can anyone explain what went wrong here? I was getting a tad twitchy myself, so hungry for a forum that I signed on to www.ajarn.com. That's quite a lively place; I think I'll visit more often. Of course it's Thai-centric, but then so am I. More free-wheeling and less anal-retentive than this one.

It wasn't open to the mods - it was open to the "administrators" - that's Dave.

And right now there's way more that we don't know than we do. I think at this point Dave is busy getting things back working.

Thanks, lemon. I had a vision of all the mods doing sleuth work in the Korea forums (looking for hackers, or whatever).

I doubt that the crash had to do with the recent alterations. Whatever it was, it must have been a monumental headache for Dave. I am sure he must be in need of a few days sleep by now! Anyway, the down time for me was good, I have been very productive.

I heard it was a hack, can we get a confirmation on that?

I agree with you. They're totally different sections of the server.

That's a fair guess, particularly the "monumental headache" part.

Probably was good for many people. Visions of pasty foreigners stumbling outside, shielding their eyes from the bright sunlight... Smile

Is Dave a real person, or a secret pawn of the Microsoft empire? Hmm...

Another thing - it's not yet 100%, and some of the database got corrupted.

You may find some threads won't open, but instead return a "debug mode" error. They're probably toast, and we'll have to remove them. It'd be great if you could PM me the URL of the thread...

If you can't find a particular thread, it's possible that it fell victim to this. So don't freak out - it was a technical thing, not a moderator decision.
