|
|
I have an SQL acoount with my host and the server has all the extensions and supports php.
Now, I've uploaded the files, read and followed the instructions more times than I want to admit, and each time I go to www.mydoamain.net/phpBB2/index.php, or install/install.php I get the same thing; a page showing me the code.
I try, and try, delete the file, re-upload it, try again and always the same thing.
So, it's not that I am having trouble installing it, I can't get to the installation screen; only code.
Oh, I asked my host and was told that there was no need to change the file extensions.

First of all, are you FTPing up your files? If so you need to CHMOD some of the install files. What that means is changing the write permissions on some of the files.
Also, with phpBB there is an install folder, and you need to run the "\install\install.php" file first to get the "index.php" to come up correctly. |

Try running a small PHP script that is only a few lines long (such as a random image viewer) to see if the PHP interpreter is working. |

All you need to do is upload the source code from the SLQ server, then click the file for .phpedit, then ftp to your site, decode the leftover files, then log off your server and log back in. After that it's just a matter of reconfiguring the postscript settings and fine tuning the PHP source code. Hope this helps. |

This paragraph suggests you have never actually seen a server before, but perhaps have tried to make one out of cardboard. |

All you need to do to make a server is to gut the inside of a PC, take the necessary parts and compile them into a new casing, then install server software. After that it's just a matter of adding the approriate modulations and configuring the protocols and adjusting parameters. Easy 1, 2, 3. |

Does this mean you have or have not attempted to make a server using only cardboard?
Pro-tip: Unwise to bluff about your server knowledge when I have one sitting in my kitchen that serves up a few dozen gigabytes a day (with a limit of a terabyte a day if required).

Thanks for all the help guys, but I decided to change my hosting service.
The one I had was ucvhost and they were no help what so ever, and I was paying $3.75/month for 25MB web space/25MB SQL.
Well, I changed to the following and I feel it is a much better deal, and I won't be asking questions like this as they have some of the hottest scripts ready to install from my control panel.
Again, thanks for the help and I'll post my link as soon as it's ready to go. |

Nice setup you got there. What exactly do you host Gord? I have 3 desktops in my apartment, one is a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. here is a link to my site:
http://gentlegiant.no-ip.com
I use mine as a webserver and for FTP.

Strange, I'm using the same ISP, have never had any trouble with PHP stuff, and only pay 1$ a month for 25MB web space.
Then again, I don't use any SQL on my site, only simple scripts. |
