Yes---I filed the pension papers about three weeks ago in Seoul. And today, well, I'm a richin' ---6.5 million bones in me account Shocked . That buys a lot of happiness here in Thailand! The key is to make sure you fill out the forms properly and have a Korean help you should there be any problems. You also need, obviously, identification and a plane ticket leaving Gorea. Now--me thinks I shall go have some fun.

magpie,

How long did you work in Korea? Do you think filing for pension claims in the provinces would be different? I have heard that those who have the fortune of working outside of Seoul it is more difficult to get the paperwork completed. Another reason not to teach outside of Seoul. There is Seoul and then there is the rest of Korea.

I worked in Gorea for about 3 1/2 years and filed at an office by Chungmuro station in Seoul. The woman in charge of the waygukians speaks Englishee very well and has the forms already prepped. Since it is the National Pension, I suppose you could file anywhere. However, I could be wrong. As with dealing with any government institution there can always be a problem if you neglect to follow the protocol to a "t" or a dotted "i". Curiously enough, a friend of mine received his pension and never even left Gorea. That said, keep in mind that most mom and pop hagwons don't pay into the pension fund becuse they have to match your contribution. That said, I think I'll go for a swim, have a Marlboro and chat-up some LOS women Laughing

Magpie,

Thank you for your reply.

What kind of place did you teach at?
National Chain Hagwon, Small Local Hagwon, Public School, EPIK, University, or Company.

Had the place worked with foreigners a lot before?

Worked in Korea for six years; seems they invested the pension money for me, and mailed me a check for $16,000 when I was in the US.
