I just bought a really nice laptop, but I can't figure out how to uninstall my AOL service/connection (which I don't need) and when I right and left click on it I can only delete it. What do I do? It appears as a short cut on my screen.

The guy wants help, not snotty, juvenile comments, you worthless prickwit.

Grow up and give him help, or keep your smarmy fingers off the keyboard.

What's a prickwit? Someone who makes phallic jokes?

It's an impromptu back-formation--> prik+dimwit, I suppose. I seemed right at the time.

I believe his lies (well, at least those that refer to your avatar anyway...)

Well, 7 psts in and no answer forthe poor guy.

I'll try.

Can you go to the "Control Panel" and "Add/Remove Programs" and uninstall it from there?

Or perhaps from the "Network Connections" link? Disable the connection? Then uninstall?

Worst case of butchery: Delete the folder in the C: directory, delete the link on the desktop and edit the registry, deleting all entries and branches of AOL? (Please, don't edit the registry unless you feel really brave. Read up on how to back it up and work within it first!)

I don't know much about using AOL software...I have avoided it like the plauge. The company just scares me.

That was my suggestion (above), better phrased.

I see a generic Angelfire anti-linking pic versus a red X...

As for the AOL, I have no idea since I avoid it like the plague...
back in the Win 3.x days made the mistake of using one of their '30 Day Free Trial' CDs. When the time was up I tried to uninstall it and it crashed the system.. hard.

Vaguely recall having to re-format & reinstall- hopefully things have come a long way since then.

My avatar used to be a picture of Quagmar from The Family Guy but for some reason the suppliers changed it to their logo.

That's because they don't allow outside linking to their servers. Same deal with your new avatar:

Instead of trying to steal bandwidth from someone, why not just use the storage space your ISP gives you to host your images you wish to link to?
