Transit in KL.
Is it worth trying to get out of the airport and see something if I have as little as 5 hours. I arrive at 5'30am and 7'30 am respectively.
Otherwise, what is the airport like? Can I get a shower like at Changi? |

There's a free tour available. They give you some kind of temporary pass (don't stamp your passport) and you hop on a bus and drive to the beach, kick around for a few minutes, and go back to the airport. |

You done this tour then?
Sounds like a great way of wasting a few hours. I could even take my swimming shorts... IF I can get a shower back at the airport. |

They take you to the beach from KLIA? Seems like a long haul and not to any great beach at that.
If you have enough time take the airport train that goes straight out of the terminal (like Hong Kong's if you've been there) and see a bit of KL. The airport is clean, modern and mostly empty but I can't see it being a lengthy distraction. |

KL airport is miles from anywhere, and as for facilities there, I'm not sure cos' we just hopped a cab straight into the city... about a 1 hour 10 or 20 minute drive.
Best of luck, and I'm sure if you ask you'll find a shower in there.
By the way, it's where they filmed Total Recall... pretty amazing structure! |

Upstairs near the central hall - is a great lounge. It costs US$18 for up to five hours. Free internet (though the machines are tacky and old), free buffet (limited, but good chow), free showers (hot! and high pressure), all you can drink beer and beverages (also some hard liquor, but not sure what kind), comfortable furniture for hanging out, and a place to stash your carry on luggage - so you can wander about. The lounge is not equivilant of a first class lounge, but it is a good value when you have a few hours to blow.
Nice airport, good food, great cigar shops.
BUT! Be careful - keep an eye on your credit cards - last time there I had a problem at a photoshop. Clerk went into the back room with my Visa, was gone a little too long. Didn't think much of it then, but a few months later got $5000! charges on my card in Japan. Called Visa and they said someone there actually had a replica of the card - literally using the card. No problem in the end, of course, but keep your eyes on your CC and avoid the camera shops - or at least be very pissy about them taking the card out of your sight. This shop was the only time in the last couple years that the card had been out of my sight - so I am quite sure where the problem came from. |

The airport's right by the coast. I'd do it. Sure would beat hanging around the airport, though as far as airport's go I'd put it on par with Changi.
For going into town, the high speed train (KLIA Expres) rocks, and takes only 25 minutes. This takes you to KL Sentral, right in the heart of downtown Kuala Lumpur. Still, you may not really have a whole lot of time to look around and see anything.
I'd take the beach option, if it's available.
One other thing - KLIA has a satellite terminal. That's where all the good stuff is (internet, better shops and lounges, etc). |
