Hi,

I recently moved to Seoul Korea and am looking for a card or an inexpensive means to call the US. I bought a card at a convenient store called "Buy The Way" for 10000 won and it gave me a little over an hour. Prior to coming here from Florida, I bought a card in the states for 5 dollars and it gave me nearly 5 hours of calling to Korea.

Are there any deals like that here?

there are places in Itaewon where you can get about 5 hours for 10,000 won but the cheapest places are online travel agencies do a search I am sure the post is here somewhere

okay the initial outlay is expensive but after that you are home free

you need two paper cups and about 8000 miles of string

Actually I use my computer and do video chats with my family now I only use my telephone to contact my friends when I am feeling down.

My phone card for the US is 11 hours for 24,000. That ends up being 3 cents a minute.

Got the card in Itaewon and it's called "July 4" or "Card Land of the USA"

The 4th one has a picture of Iwo Jima on it.

Cardland is black with the US as fried eggs.

OK, I make many overseas calls (around 50 USD pm) and was using American Access, reloadable by credit card, but they went mammaries-up.

I have now found a Runtel card (10,000 KRW) gives 150 minutes and is also reloadable by credit card, so you always have the same number. The service seems excellent so far and I reloaded the card this morning after 4 days.

Oh Geez, sorry guys. I didn't check back at this post and see that I should have answered sooner about the phone cards in Itaewon.

Go to the Burger King, and turn to your right. (going towards the Red Door, if you know where that is)

Take the immediate next left street that you can; it's a small side street.

There's a phone card shop on the left and right of that street, but I can't remember which one I bought the cards at...maybe they both carry them. The shops are about 5 steps from the corner, and have all the phone card posters in the windows.

I did go in and ask what the best rate to the US was, and they didn't give me the July 4th/Cardland of the USA card...I had to ask for it.

FORGET ALL THAT!

Use internet phone services yo! You can use Callserve for example that is fee based. You can download the software online.

OR

Get a programme called Skype. It is a p2p programme which is FREE. All you need is your computer, headphones, and the programme. If you don't have a computer, get someone to burn the install file onto a CD-rom disc and install/uninstall it each time you go to a pc-bang.

OR

If this isn't your thing, you can buy internet phones that basically operate the same way as a normal phone but it is hooked up through a DSL connection. The fee is only like 35,000 won per month for unlimited calling. I think people can also call you through these phones.

Don't waste your time with calling cards. They're bloody expensive!
