|
|
A Korean woman has been murdered in London. The woman's remains were found in a freezer.
http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200406/200406110040.html
The Korean newspaper reports that Korean residents in London think that Korean police officers should live in the UK and assist their British counterparts in crimes invloving Koreans! Can you imagine the Korean response if waegooks demanded that Western police forces should deal with crimes involving expats on Korean soil? |

Well...think of the way Koreans handle it when the US military police intervene in a crime that involves a GI and a Korean.
They scream unfairness and demand it be tried under their jurisdiction.
The irony of Korea, gotta' love it |

kiwiboy...please help me. You have been here awhile, and I generally like your posts. So I know that you are the one to ask.
You said that it was 'profoundly racist'. My problem, you see, is that I don't know what 'racist' means anymore. It has been used on this board in so many contexts, that I just can't figure it out.
By the way, if my asking you for help offends you, or is in any way racist itself...I apologize...I know not what I do...
On a serious note: I am sure that the KNP will be invited over by Scotland Yard anyway. There is probably no need for KNP officers to reside in England, but I see no reason why they shouldn't assist (help overcome language and cultural barriers). The FBI helps out abroad when asked. I have met Scotland Yard officers here in Korea helping out on a case. |

Being called over for one off incidents is different from being placed in a foreign country permanantly. The idea of that is just rediculous, no country would ever accept it, especially Korea it's self.
Diver, as for why that is racist, I'm too tired to answer that now. If you don't think it's racist, tell me your reasons, that would be interesting. Seriously. |

The KNP might be useful if the crimes were committed between Koreans on a mafia level. (such as the yardie drug gangs who are a menace in parts of London are often tackled in co-operation with the Jamaican police force). The implication here is that the KNP should intervene in any incidents that take place involving Koreans in the UK. That's absurd, and would never be tolerated in this country. The language barrier you refered to is easily overcome with the use of interpreters.(extremely common in UK police stations). No need for the KNP thank you very much. |

kiwi,
I forgot to put a 'smiley' to let you know I was joking. I also wasn't exactly sure to what you were referring. Now I do.
I absolutely agree that having KNP officers based in England is ridiculous. No debate there. I was just saying that it is not uncommon for police forces of different countries to cooperate. The Korean community should be able to (will have to) accept KNP being invited over as guests.
As far as racist...Really...that word is thrown around so much on this board it is losing its meaning. If you interpret their desire to have Korean police reside in England as meaning that they think that Scotland Yard is not competent enough to solve the crime and that only Koreans can...then I would agree that it is racist. Even if they didn't have racist intent, they are still demanding something they would scream about if requested from them in Korea. Lastat pointed this out nicely already. My gut insticnt is to tell them "This is England! When you are in Rome you must do as Romans do!"
So, I do agree with you... |

Gwangjuboy,
Personally, the only thing I think the KNP could help Scotland Yard with is teach them how to palm a bribe without being seen. However, I know that in Canada and the US, asian communities are reluctant to get invloved with the police (after seeing the police in their own countries, maybe you can't blame them). Maybe the Korean community would be more willing to cooperate with/speak to a 'familiar face'. Just a guess.
The KNP may also be more willing to extend the courtesy to foreign police forces if a similar incident should happen in Korea against a foreigner. I would rather have the RCMP over here assisting in the investigation of my demise than to allow the KNP to handle it alone. May family would NEVER know what happened to me.
Please don't think that I believe Scotland Yard needs anyone's help in investigating a crime. And, again, having KNP officers reside in ANY country to investigate crimes against Koreans abroad is ridiculous. |

The KNP could help with sweeping scotland yard and maybe getting coffees for the officers, so long as they got scr*wed out of their bonuses 2 days before their year contracts were up. |

This whole thread is laughable, even more so when you realise that koreans actually believe and judge on a one off incident.
Unfortunately my korean wife is also named Kang(the same as the woman who was killed) I joked with her that she'll end up in the neng chang go if she gives me anymore grief!!!
She thought it was funny but her family visited this weekend and they were staring at me funnily(being British) and my wife said that they were worried that all British people were similar to the husband who killed her.
Why would there be any need for Korean plod when it is quite clear that the husband killed her!!!
As one person mentioned, I wouldn't trust the police in Korea to tie their own shoe laces.(from personal experience)
I noticed also that there are only 15,000 Koreans in the whole of Britain, probably half are students.
I wonder how many Koreans have been murdered in the USA or Canada?
Ah, I forget, they get special treatment!
People in Britain are real bar-stools, look at this site.
www.dswark.org/bridge/0309/page03.htm
I also noticed that Korea Town in the UK(New Maldon) has had direct requests from the Metropolitan Police for Koreans to join the local police force.
This type of half baked reporting(Korean TV and Newspapers) really gets on my nerves.
Last year it was the private college that went bust, big report for about 3 days on KBS news, no follow up,=money returned!!
British soldiers beating Iraqis-days and days of terrible coverage=20 second report about possibly!!! being a hoax.
The Korean student run over by a bus!!!
He was looking wrong way!!!!
He had an autopsy!!!!!!!!!
Boo, hiss(every non-natural death has an autopsy in the UK)
VJ report that he was being tormented by skinhead hooligans, prior to his death-no substance.
I used to laugh at the Americans when a news report(a bad one was reported) now I look at it as propaganda, as it should be viewed-with a pinch of salt.
I really love Korea at times but sometimes i F*****g hate it!!!
Oh, and by the way- there were Korean Kamikaze pilots during WW2!!!!
I got that nugget from my mother in law!!!(she should know, she lived through it) not a made up lie to assuage the masses, as seems to be the case in every korean history book and any popular fiction !!
Oh, and while i'm at it-I expect we'll see footage(old footage) of English hooligans rampaging around the streets in Euro 2004.
Well that's better, I feel cleansed.

I agree. It is laughable, and thats the best way to take Koreans if you are to survive here. they cannot, or will not, think logically or sensibly. I fully expect daily demonstrations outside the British Embassy from now on, Because all British people are vermin.
Mind you, they might have something there. After 6 years there i have to agree, they are indeed "Barstools'. |
