let's see... it happens to me almost daily. it hasn't happened in a long time cuz i don't let it.
when i say it hasn't happened, i mean... it is attempted but not successful.

it happens often and not 'sometimes' as you say. where else do people cut in line and are generally inconsiderate to others?
once more... this does not just happen to foreigners, it happens to other koreans too. |

| Kind of interesting to note that you didn't make the claim until AFTER I posted. And if you notice, I said "so far" |

desultude,
What is this thread about? The wonderful service provided to foreigners, especially the foreigners from Southeast Asia.
FIRST COME, LAST SERVED... for waygook customers in Korea |
Exactly. Superteacher was keeping it on-topic until you veered off with your condescending crap. God forbid, if someone over here is happy-go-lucky. Lay off. |

Did anyone ever consider the feelings of the cashier? Especially if the customer is older, they are afraid to say anything to them about the cutting in line.
Chalk another one up to confusionism.
Can anyone tell how much I despise that way of thinking? ^^ |

So I have no idea how off topic this thead has gone but I have a story which I find interesting at best.
Yesterday me and my co-worker decided we slum it and go to the Lotteria for dinner (There really isn't any american fast food chains and girl needed a salad).
So we arte standing in line when this guy behind us tries to blantantly jump ahead of us in line. He starts yelling his order to the cashier and waving his credit card around. My co-worker and I thought hmmm he seems rude.
The cashier muttered something to him in korean, made him go to the back of the line and served us first. I was very impressed with this girl, who was obivously quite young (high school) so
here's a case of Waygook served first korean served last. |

Yes, that's it. That's an attitude I notice sometimes around here, and I never saw anything quite like it back home in Canada, except with junior high kids pushing ahead of elementary school kids.
What are they thinking? Maybe it's the Korean "I am king" syndrome in one of its nasty forms. |

Had a classic today at Lotteria. I had been in line for three minutes or so, and I was up next, when Ajuma came brushing past me and went belly up to the counter waving her money. The particular lady got physically moved to the side quite forcefully today, and the shocked look on her face was priceless. The counter person saw it all, and didn't bat an eyelid at my behaviour and calmly proceeded to serve me.

It's still good advice Homer. Some places accommodate the cue jumpers and others outright encourage it. I know one place of the latter, and if my future counter-huggin', faster-paced shopping habits don't change things at that store, I'll consider acting on the advice. |

Unfortunately many "teachers" here seem to think that Korea should change to suit them, and not the other way around, even though most of these "teachers" are short-term residents. |

Wylde...his comment was an accurate reflection of a certain part of the foreign population here....not all of it but a part of it.
Why would that comment make him "korean".
As for queue jumping...being home in Canada now (vacation) I can tell you it happens here too. How positively shocking. |
