I fully expect daily demonstrations outside the British Embassy from now on, Because all British people are vermin.

I dunno. There was a Korean woman attacked and left comatose in Vancouver a couple of years back. The culprit was caught, tried, and convicted. So far as I am aware, it didn't lead to any anti-Canadian protests over here.

Why reduce a serious subject by using petty racism?

No protests, but it did make a splash. I heard about it from quite a few places and it made national TV news. The incident looked random but the "racism" argument was automatically being applied.

Now the funny thing was about two months ago. A younger Korean man killed a Korean landlady in Vancouver, after responding to a 'room for rent' sign. The news coverage here (Canada) seemed to go out of their way when they reported that "racism was not believed to be a factor". The fact that it was Korean on Korean violence made such a statement sound odd to hear.

It turned out that the Korean man didn't speak English-- only Korean. One could argue that the landlady's ethnicity was a directly contributing factor to her selection as a victim. Would this count as racism?

I think a lot of Korean-Americans tend to live in their own little Kor-Am community, so when there is some crime with a Korean victim, it often is the case that the perp is Korean as well.

A few years ago in Texas, I think, there was a multiple homicide/suicide case... all Koreans.

Hyalucent,

These days not liking kimchi is a form of racism.
