Avidly reading all the Dave's ESL cafe Korean forum postings I could for a few weeks gave me good insight as to what to expect, from fellow foreigners as well as Koreans.
But then again living abroad for a few years beforehand and knowing you can forget most expectations about your new digs was priceless. |

That was so clever! |

Running a business in Toronto ON. Canada for about 15 years. Reading this board. Travelling and sound problem solving skills. Finally a bit of respect for and understanding of a foreign culture's business customs. Patience.
No job is perfect but where do you draw the line? Same problem at home as here, just less experience with the nature of the Korean employee experience. |

| Came to Seoul twice as a tourist. Gave me a good idea what to expect. Then moving from Toronto to Seattle gave me loads of experience moving to another country, thousands of miles away from family and friends. |

| Have two cousins who have been here 7 and 3 years, fellow refugees of university humanities programs, heard good things. Had numerous crappy service sector jobs in my home town. Watched my friends leave town or get lame, or f-ed up. Got royally screwed around by my ex-gf. Band broke up. Spent a year after school chronically under-employed, after being chronically under-employed during school, and overworked and underfocused. Spent two-three months cruising around on here and some other sites/blogs, soaking it up. Had enough, so I left. Here I am. Beats what I was doing, I think I'm adjusting alright for one so sheltered previously. |

Worked in a Korean Community for 10 months in Hamilton, ON. Hung out in Koreatown Toronto for a month or so, but it still doesn't really prepare you. Nothing really does. My mantra here has always been ~
be ready for anything!

| For me it was the Jindo dogs I grew up with, they lived next door to us in Pasadena back in the early 70's. They taught me pronunciation in the barky barkus method. Kind of like your human phonics system. |

I don't get it. Maybe I'm not supposed to? |
