There is the 60-hour YL (Young Learners) endorsement to the CELTA and then there is the 120-hour full-blown CELTYL. I'm interested in the latter yet, since they're somewhat similar, any comments about the former would be relevant.

Has anybody who's teaching in the prolific hagwon industry or in grade school taken the CELTYL? How has it affected your teaching? For those who have taken CELTA-YL, how has the added YL made a difference?

It's possible to take the YL endorsement two-week course in many countries but the 120-hour CELTYL is only in a handful of places and usually part time over six months or so. The intensive full-time one-month-only CELTYL is available in only three countries: in Spain and Portugal in the summers and in Uruguay next February. The course is designed to focus on 5-16 year olds, sometimes concentrating on a narrow age group: 5-10, 8-12, or 10-16.

The CELTYL in Uruguay next February is focused on developing teaching skills for 8-12 year olds, perfect for the Korean hagwon industry, I'm thinking.

Hence, I'm tempted to do it and am in search of info. I have checked out the Cambridge site and the Trinity equivalent site, and some firsthand experiences from those who've taken that or other young learner course would be appreciated.

I realize that a highly respected international certificate to help teach to young learners isn't recognized by the vast majority of Korean employers. I want to be a better teacher here, and perhaps later elsewhere.
