Those two particular programs are free to download. It would have been a better idea to get them from the publishers' websites to reduce the risk of sabotage.

This link has those programs and more.
ZDNet.com

Zone Alarm is good to have for instance.

Lots of info, user ratings and I believe the download links go to the publishers sites so they are safe. Not all software is free but a lot of companies concerned with web security put out free versions of their software.

I avoid any site with the word "warez" in it.

Recently, the governments of some 5 countries kicked in the doors of 13 of these "warez" sites (warez groups, rather and all affilliated networkZ) and confiscated everything, including their logs.

Lately, my e-mail has been getting spammed with "we are still open...come back NOW"-type messages from a group I used to belong to, but bailed shortly before the raids and after most of the members were tipped off.

I wouldn't go there without a chained proxy to some fairly obscure countries.

Yeah I would avoid warez sites too. I got a nasty virus from one last spring. I had to do a lot of searching to find a cure. It was new. Programz, ZDnet, it's sister site C-net and lunatic.org are the only sites I recall not having had any problems with. Those sites with the click here and pick or vote instructions are crap. Others I've used that seem okay often link to the bad sites. Altavista, cracks.am come to mind. Multiple PrOn popups are also an welcome feature of many warez sites.

Yep...use P2P or get the "trial" version and go to...

....to open it up. Good ani-virus, pop-up blocker and as always, javascript disabled.

Of course, don't use Internet "Can I have some trouble please?" Explorer.
