Actually, I saw it on the korean news about 3 weeks ago. In the sillim area, they reported that 5 young girls had been stabbed while walking alone on the streets in the wee hours. One had escaped, the others died. But, the police at that time couldn't confirm if it was the work of one person. I watched the report with translation help from my Korean hubby.
Why is it that English papers in Seoul avoid these type of stories?

Yeah interesting point. I've noticed the Herald/Times/Tribute mostly focus on political/economic news and like to take pictures of white people wearing hanboks. The only murders you hear about are if a jarhead kills his Korean gf.

I saw something on KBS last week about murders in Sillim-dong and the father was crying his eyes out asking for information as they don't know who it is.

I doubt it is red mask related though

You're probably right. I just thought the timing (right after this Red Mask tale had been doing the rounds) combined with the targeted group (young girls) and the method (which I was told was a knife at the throat) could indicate some psycho copycat killer. Sounds more like a movie plot though.

I heard a similar story from my students. Except that the killer had recieved a sub-par pedicure and wore red shoes.

My students were not the shiniest apples on the tree...
