I've signed a contract with a new school and they offered me two options:
1) Teach kindergarten classes, work five days a week
2) No Kindergarten, work 6 days a week.

Hmmmm....... Kindergarten or working on Saturdays? Tough call. At my last school, I taught from Kindergarten to Adult (although I wasn't the regular Kindergarten teacher) and to be quite honest, I prefered the older students much better then the Kindergarten classes that I had. Besides, no Kindergarten means that I have my mornings free! Smile

So, I chose the six day option. What would you have done?

I would choose Kindergarten, but then I love little kids and think the lessons taught in Kinder are more fun to teach (generally more games, songs and stories and less reading, writing and book work). But if you don't like teaching Kinder it sounds like you made the right decision. Best of luck!

Jack Bauer says he would go back on drugs if he were stuck with either of those options.

My mornings are more important to me than my Saturdays.

I chose this job because it required me to work neither, or so I thought. When I started here I was informed that the kindergarten was closing and that the previous teacher I was replacing worked there. I wouldn't have to work there, but instead I was expected to work Saturdays. This was presented as fair. I bit my tongue and didn't bring up that I had told the recruiter explicitly that I wanted BOTH my mornings AND my weekends all to myself. (I'm glad I didn't object because the director has been wonderful, otherwise.) I worked Saturdays my first week here. Fortunately, business is slow enough that I was able to get Saturdays off during my second year, a concession I got before I re-signed another contract.

This year, there are too many rainy Saturdays, like today. Sad

You all must have some good jobs because looking around there always seems to be a give and take with different jobs for teaching in Korea. Stable Vs. private owned where you have no idea what can happen. longer hours (/w more pay) Vs. lower hours (/w a little less pay). Private housing Vs. Shared Vs. No housing contract. Kinder Vs. Sat. and many other choices... So if all of you guys always got what you wanted out of all those choices out there I would like to know where the hook up is...

pm me about my job. There is possibly one opening in August and one or two openings the first of December.

I've never heard of a better hakwon situation than mine and my boss is a great guy.
