1. Make sure you wear waterproof shoes as drainage is not good in many areas. Aqua shoes are nice. If you have large feet, you can buy them in Itaewon.
2. Don't spend more than 5,000 won for an umbrella. They are cheaply made and "borred" often. I have seen that price in Kangnam, which is one of the most expensive areas of Korea.
3. Walk on the inside of sidewalks (in areas which have sidewalks) do avoid getting splashed. Of course, if you are a gentleman and with a lady, suggest she walk on the inside.
4. Make sure your electronic equipment is protected in case of a thunder storm.
5. Beware of sudden flash flood warnings in areas outside of Seoul.
6. If you drive, don't drive across streams that are flooding. |

Or wear sandals to work and carry your shoes and socks in a plastic bag to change into afterwards. |

Don't wade through stormwater near street lights. No circuit breakers installed in a lot of cases. 21 people died in the flood of July '01 in Seoul alone, and a certain percentage of those were electrocutions from wading past street lights at night. Word.

Before this post I was always terrified and confused by rain. I would run into the streets in my slippers and underwear. What else could I do?Thanks for the tips. I feel so foolish now.

I agree. Like pens, no one really "owns" umbrellas. They just drift in and out of peoples' lives. |

Depending on the age and quality of your housing, expect that one or more of the walls that face the outside to become soaked on the inside. Beware of electrical plugs on these walls, keep any valuable posters/photos off of these walls.
The wallpaper will be previously water-marked if this is happening, so pay attention to the stains on the walls.
Keep things away from windows, as they may lack weather stripping to seal out the rain, and floors around windows may get wet.
My first year in Korea saw me living in a hole that was for all purposes, a sponge. |

is there anywhere to buy gold bond medicated powder/cream? i have a skin problem that i do not care to describe in detail but it is exacerbated a great deal by humidity.

Beware the terrible month of August...the wettest in Korea. Don't be foolish like I was last year. Don't plan any outdoor activities for then..it is just relentless downpour. |

1. Don't be the wicked witch, you'll melt.
2. Don't try smoking a cigarette unless you are under some kind of shelter.
3. Don't use your hairdryer or television outside.
4. Close the roof of your car if you have a convertible. |

1. The humidity will mildew your clothes (and books sometimes). Try not to hang them closely.
2. Get an air conditioner or one of those dehumidifiers (for about 10% of the cost of an air con.)
3. Don't stand on your roof and wave steel pipes in the air during lightning storms. |

Stock up on buckets for when your roof starts to leak. |
