My wife and I have been talking about getting private insurance (through Samsung Insurance) in addition to the medical insurance I get through my work. It will pay for whatever my work insurance doesn't cover, plus payouts for loss of limbs or other disabilites, or death.

Now I know very little about how the insurance game works. So if anyone has any advice on what I should be asking or looking for, feel free to share.

The agent has worked out a 5 year plan for me which would cost 175,000 won/month. If I don't make any payout claims, after the 5 years is up, I'll get nearly 84% of the money back.

Thoughts?

Did that work out? That sounds like something I might need.

I'm looking for extra insurance, because I just realized that the Korean National Plan is useless.

Worst case scenario is I get smashed up and require emergency evacuation to Canada or get a serious illness and need to return to Canada.

I'm a non-resident, so I can't just jump back to Canada for full coverage, nor is the insurance I have here particularly extensive. I took a glance at these:

http://www.expatriate-insurance.net/

http://www.mnui.com/

The first one looks good as it has no deductable. It would cost $1600 Cdn for me, or $4300 Cdn for me and dependents for one year. A little expensive, but I don't have a good idea of appropriate costs. It also covers medical evacuation and the three month period in Canada when I'm not so eligible.

The Multinational one has a $250 deductable.
