|
|
I hear most schools pretty much discriminate against hiring non-whites because they feel typical caucasian teachers is what sells or brings students/business into their schools.
I'd like to hear what you guys know on this topic. If it's true, can anyone recommened me a school that might hire a twinkie like myself. I was born and raised in the States.. you can't get any "whiter" than me
Thanks in advance. |

1 what is a twinkie?
2 yes schools do discriminate. My first hogwan instructed the director when hiring that the first thing to ask on the phone was, are you white? if not then no - go...
however since then I haven't worked anywhere where discrimination was evident. |

kimcheeking: It's a phrase, replaceable with banana, that basically means someone is yellow(Asian) on the outside, and white(duh) on the inside. In other words...not a real Asian. |

Sure, no prob, though it's not something you'd pick up from being here. It's a Western slander, or, at the least, used by Asians not in Asia. |

Well, a twinkie can also be a girl who acts very immature for her age.
Another word for what you are describing (and more common) is an egg.
(white out, yellow in). |

Yes, the discrimination is real, but moreso against ethnicities that are neither white nor Asian (well, east Asian/Korean, anyway). Are you of Korean descent? Then you could quite easily get a job, but the terms wouldn't be as good as if you were white. If you aren't ethnically Korean, I'd imagine it would be much more difficult, though I suppose not impossible. |

You could try. I worked with a guy in Korea who looked Arabic. I'm also in Taiwan now, and work with a black girl. Just give it a shot.
**It's their attitude once you're hired that may give you the greater problem.** |

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll guess I'll just have to try and see what happens.
Btw, I'm a Korean-American, and last time I checked, still a REAL Asian!
Take it easy guys. |

there are about 1000 of them.. i posted as another response to the problems you had on another thread as well.. if you are still having problems.. i'll spend an hour or two of my own time and quickly post 40-50 extremely recent job postings.. i see them just about everywhere.. and it actually takes more time doing the cutting and pasting.. first step is search for 'english teachers korea' on any search engine.. then start click on 'jobs offered'.. and look in the most recent.. within 5 minutes i pulled down a good 100 or so of them.. i'm too lazy to cut and paste every single one of the them.. but if you are still having problems.. i'll do that here for you..
