i find that people ask me "are you okay" here a lot?

"ada-yoo okee?"

i've adopted it and it tends to annoy the hell out of my friends.

"welcome to Korea" was a world cup thing, I think.

According to the Grade 3 curriculum its "Hi, hello, my name is Zeeto." (Zeeto is the alien/ comic relief in the textbook)

No ma'am. They've been saying that since I got here in 1995. Speculation at the time was that it was an Expo thing. I suspect that before that people speculated that it was an Olympic thing.

Me: Australia.
Korean: ohhhh kangaroo!
followed by uncomfortable silence.

a few seconds later...
Korean: Korea good?
another uncomfortable silence!

They love using "so-so"

So many times on MSN, I'd be talking to some buddies who like to practise english. I humour them. Who's the idiot? :)

"Hey there. How are you?"
"So so"
"#!%!%!%"

They don't seem to be able to break that habit. I'm reminded of Prometheus' punishment.

jae.
