Do you have a teacher mode?


JacktheCat the person is laidback and easygoing. He dresses in jeans and faded t-shirts picked up in different countries around the world and speaks in a soft mellow voice. His apartment is a mess and so is his personal life. He smokes too much and drinks too much. He is babo and his motto is "why do today what you can put off till tomorrow."

JacktheCat the teacher is serious and stern. He wears business slacks, dress shirts and sometimes a tie, and speaks in a loud commanding voice. he doesn't take shit from the students and sometimes carries a big stick. His desk is uncluttered and well-organised. He likes to plan out his lessons and dislikes playing games and wasting valuable teaching time.

Yes and no. I definitely did when I came here, but now they're starting to blur.

For me, it depends on the class I'm teaching. If it's a smart bunch that have a natural tendency to listen and talk, then I'm much more myself, relaxed easy-going, talkative. But some classes, the one's with scattered attention, need strict discipline, so I have to act accordingly.

I only post that way because you have cricitcised me on being cryptic more than once, all times being justified, and this post is all about hidden Tiberious love, and overt peppermint love.

I become more childlike in the classroom, talking in a condescending voice and making infantile jokes.

I'm worried that if I change to teaching adults, I'll have trouble changing my teaching style:

"If you're really good I'll give you a sticker!"

"Boys team and girls team!"

Really, don't worry about switching between adults and children.

At first, on changing to adults I wanted to have intelligent conversation and make a good impression, and I was aware of the fact that I had been teaching kids for the longest time.

Well, it wasn't long before I asked them what they wanted to do.

And the answer took me right back to hagwon - Game Please, Teacher!

ie. The freshman attire and accessories (which were discussed a while ago on this post) are not much of a change anyway.

Yeah that's a good one jack. I sometimes get pissed off at little 10 year olds for goofing around in a foreign language class! Meanwhile in my regular life I am the king of goofing off.

But hey, I don't like to see the time and money be wasted too much!

I definately change when I enter the classroom. For some reason my voice becomes a bit more British. As a teacher I have to keep the class busy for the entire time so I am constantly thinking of how to keep things interesting and as a result after the class is over I have a sort of mental crash for about two minutes. A sort of winding down where I think "Did I really just blab away about in, on, under the box for a whole 80 minutes?"

I'm not a real teacher, so I don't distinguish between my life in and away from the school. I'm simply a figurehead that collects a paycheck...it's what the school wants and they get what they pay for. Guilt-free and smiling.
