this is a rant.

so i need a new gym because i've just moved into a new neighbourhood and fortunately there's a gym right below my school. today i went to the gym to check it out. the gym is one tiny room, full of people and really sticky. then i went to check out the locker room and then people started yelling at me for now taking off my shoes (would have been nice if they'd given me slippers to wear, or something). then i asked how much the gym was and they said 90,000 won. i looked at the girl and then looked at a sign with 50,000won written on it and walked out. i can't read korean, so i don't know what that sign said, but anyone who would pay 90,000 for a gym that doesn't even have aerobics classes is nuts.

anyway, that's all i have to say. if anyone knows of a nice gym that's reasonably priced in the yeon chom dong (sp) area please let me know!!!!

lol, ah what to say.

90,000 in Seoul is not unheard of. Really depends on the area.

All the gyms i've been to have been a "leave your shoes at the door" type.

The hwole 50k thing.. well that could have just been the fine for wearing your shoes in the place




all kidding aside, there are a few good gyms around with a few good ppl in them. Keep looking... but take off your shoes next time.

i'm paying 70,000 in bundang, and it is my understanding that this is an average price. most of the people are pretty cool---meaning that they don't bother me when i'm working out. however, i should point out that the manager/trainer is super cool and gives me some good pointers. btw, everybody at my place wears shoes.

woah homer, excuse me for making a typo, as if it's the first one on the board. anyway, i was just ranting. if one can't rant here, where do you propose one does so; on the metro naked?

You could rant to your friends in Korea.....no typos to worry about there...

Not to mention that the sign you saw (since by your own admission you can't or didn't bother to read it) could mean the fee for a different membership or the amount of the fine for something.

You didn't like the Gym...what's the big deal?

Move on and find another one it's not as if they are rare.

truth of the matter - if he was a simpsons character he'd be that dude in the comic shop.

oh yeah and at my gym if you bring your own shoes you leave them in a locker. come in, drop off your card and slap your workout shoes on. take them off, take a shower, go home.

i think the main issue is that street shoes don't defile their floors. so bring a change of shoes.

one more thing i remembered - have you ever been given the "foreigner's price"?

it's something i just learned about. i was given it twice this weekend. once while buying dinner - the koreans next to me paid half of what i did for the exact same dish. then, at a night club in hongdae they told us that koreans were 5000, foreigners were 10,000 to get in.

another idea is that the 50,000 price on the sign is the price you get when you sign up for a whole year - paying the whole lump sum when you sign up. that's what it's like at my gym. i paid 80,000 x 2 for 2 months... it goes down incrementally if you sign up for more.
