I've been teaching kids for the past ten months and I really enjoy it, but I'd like to try teaching adults if I come back after some time off back home. Is it expected that I will teach those nightmarish split shifts if I want to teach adult classes? Does anyone teach adult classes in a solid block?

Depending on the split shift times it could be a nightmare or not. My question is why would anyone agree to teach split shifts?!? Especially if the first class is at 6:30 am and the last class is at 8pm!
Tell the school owner to stick it with those hours.
Judging from the posters on this site, splits is not the way to go which is why schools have a difficult time in getting teachers.
