Hey,
I'm coming back to Korea and am looking to sign a contract with a new boss. The problem is, she has lot's of students (hometeaching) but she is moving and she hasn't yet found a hagwon (she will start in August).
Apparently this makes it impossible to get a visa whiole I am home, and I will have to go to Japan etc. Is this expensive?
Also, she thinks that a new law is coming into place that doesn't allow foreigners an E2 visa if it is an "English only" hagwon.
Now I know it sounds wrong, but this is what she saw on the news recently and after talking to immigration (apparently) is what she told me.
She is keen to hire me, but i think maybe she has her wires crossed. Is this right?
Also, if this is the case (which i doubt as no-one else has mentioned it), how can you get around it, coz for me it is an excellent job for round 2.
Thanks |

sounds like she's smoking something weird to me.....
No E2 visa's for English Hogwan teachers? That can't be right unless they're basically just changing the name of the visa. If it's true it would make it impossible for the vast majority of legal english teachers here illegal. |

oh, and a trip to Japan for a visa is not expensive, but your employer should pay for it anyway. It's pretty standard. |

yeah, I think u r right, but she says it's a new law that will come into place that will START from July so the English teachers here are sweet.
I'm kinda confused.... I don't see why she would b/s me as she has already sorted me out for other things..... weird. |

She is more than misinformed. The E2 visa is FOR teaching in a language hogwon! There has been no plans or new articles talking baout it otherwise.
Tell her to send you the article (ppl here can translate) or to tell you exactly what she means (a bit confusing on how that would benifit anyone). |

Yes. She is talking out of something that shouldn't be spoken through. If there was no visa for english teachers working in english only schools, then there would be no english schools here at all. |

sounds like your potential boss doesn't know what she's talking about. she probably has a regular(bo-sup) hogwon which does not have any rules or policies to open a school. that is why she can't get you an E2.
in order for a school to apply for E2 teaching visa, it must be a foreign language school. to register as a foreigner language school it must compy with a lot of rules which costs a lot more. maaaan....sounds like a lot of b/s...be careful. |
