I'm just wondering what people think about the trustworthiness of efl-law.com's opinon on schools. If the website says that a particular school should be avoided, how much weight would you give that in your decision?

I think the only programs/schools he actually recommends against on the site are EPIK and Wonderland. And Sogang Univ. The first two are not individual schools but a large program and a large chain. That makes it really hard to generalize because for example I've heard there are great Wonderlands and people who've had great experiences with EPIK.

Now I have limited experience with Korea and hogwans, but he does seem to know what he's talking about. So for what it's worth, yeah, I trust the site's advice and recommendations.

Except for his recommendations on avoiding EPIK and Wonderland which is a lot of over-generalizing crap. That's like someone saying back home 'STAY AWAY FROM WORKING AT SUBWAY. My manager was this and that and made me do this and that.' Are all the managers at Subways the same guy? No. Are you going to have the same social dynamic and employment issues at all Subways? No.

There are 100+ Wonderland franchises in Korea. There are 100s of EPIK positions throughout Korea.

Add a dash of common sense and a sprinkle of logic and then connect the dots.

I think it's funny that he can only recommend a few hagwons. Pretty slim pickings if you ask me.

What I've heard he works very hard.

At least there is someone out there who can give some guidence and has some knowledge of the system.

he puts in his time to provide teachers here with a service.

How can you complain about that???

Thanks Justagirl. Let me clarify. I very much appreciate the service that he provides and I'm not looking for complaints about the breadth of information. Rather, I would be very interested in the opinions of people who have worked for schools/programs that are mentioned on his website. Do you think that his information is accurate based on your direct experience? Obviously, different people have different experiences at the same schools, but I think it would be useful to get a feel for whether or not the statements on efl-law.com are reliable or are based on the reports of people who have atypical experiences. Also, information about how he collects information would probably be useful in determining its reliability.

Nope.

That site as many others are influenced by cash! Really think about it who in their right mind would go out of their way to make a website and list good places to work at...And if you listened to them...Well....

I totally agree with BB

The schools recomended are paid advertisers, and have only had a few complaints against them rather than the avalanche some other schools get. Again, it's up to the individual school and the teacher, regarding whether you will have a good experience.

The same goes to Wonderland Schools. Many years ago I taught at Wonderland in Karak-Dong and experienced no problems at all. Things may have changed now, but as the years pass so do the owners, and management. Talk to the current teachers and get their opinions on how things are, and if possible avoid recruiters.
