It's one of those things that you have to give time to. When the only other stuff on the menu is chicken ass or chicken feet, budae jjiggae's not so bad. |

What are you saying when you ask them to leave it out?
I've probably ordered around 300 rolls of kimbab this past year, and not once did I have a problem getting them to leave out the ham. I'll be glad to teach you how to say it |

I know where the original poster is coming from. During my last year in Korea, my sister came over and worked for a year nearby. She is a vegetarian (but one of those who eats fish, luckily). Even though I spoke pretty decent Korean, and my wife is a native speaker , and my sister learned all of the "no meat" terms, we still had problems.
Some of the more common ones:
-Ordering food and asking that they don't put meat into it or on it, like pizza or like mushroom stew, flat noodles (kal gooksoo), often we would find chunks of meat in it... when we'd ask, the normal response was either "Without the meat, there would be no flavor." or "Well, she can just remove it, right?" (Even after they tell us "No problem... no meat")
- You must specifically tell them not to use ham... it doesn't count as meat.
- Neither does pepperoni
- Or spam
- Also be careful of the side dishes... many use beef or fish for flavoring. |

| i know, it's just annoying though. it's kinda like the simpson's episode when marge says that she puts the beef stock in lisa's broccoli so that she'll stay healthy... |
