So, can anyone explain it geographically for me? I come from a seaside town, extremely humid place, but here it seems 4 out of every 5 days is overcast. Much more so than home..

humidity + pollution = smog

Not the healthiest thing to be breathing either.

I was never great at maths but I thought
smoke + fog = smog

If you want to get into semantics, then, yes, you are right.

If you want to get into science, then it's high level atmospheric particulates (pollution) causing condensation (and hence, clouds).

I'm told that the western air presures from China and Rissa are laden with humidity by the time they reach the peninsula. As well theres the occasional Pacific front that moves this way as well. With all that water aound us, it makes for a moist environment.

This is of course coupled with mountain ranges that seem determined to lock in the clouds and iar pollution.

Not to mention this is rainy season.

This is what Seattle/Vancouver is like 8 months a year. I feel at home. Seattle/Vancouverites have found the key to surviving no sun is find yourself a good barista.

If you're really interested in weather and air pollution (actually, I think you just really wanted to know WHY it's so overcast right now!) check out this site about "inversion" in the CR. I've been there when it's happened and you think KOREA has terrible pollution problems! At least they don't burn brown coal for heat!! (Yeah, yeah, I know...some old houses do! Charcoal, anyway!)
