No, its worse.
There used to be 4 buses going from seoul station to Shillim the 85, 25, 26, 142-1
now there are 2, the 504 and the 152. Hmmmm... now each bus is packed so ful that I gave up catching one after the 3rd set of completely packed buses came and went. |
Hmm...........that's a worrying bit of information. Busses are already packed to the brim half the time as it is... |

I'd never met as many Koreans in my life as I did today simply getting the bus in and back from work. What was usually a quick and fairly effortless ride from near Namsan library to Ganghwamun turned into a squishfest. I couldn't believe how bad it was.
No joke, as we went round the corner at Namdaemun to head up Namsan about 20 people fell on top of me. The bus must have come perilously close to turning over it was so top heavy.
I'm still holding out that this was cos it was free today. If the buses continue to be this bad, I'm going to taxis and not looking back. |

People complaining about how bad the buses were today (though for me they were business as usual and faster than normal) should remember that they were free for the day.

Well..... guess what? The buses were JUST AS BAD AS YESTERDAY this morning. I dont know about the rest of you, but comfort going to and from work is sort of important to me. I dont use the subway (I work near the City Hall stop) because I dont like to be standing (forget about sitting- aint gonna happen @ 8am) mashed in a hot, humid subway car with no air circulation. So I got up earlier and took the bus. That worked just fine for the last 9 months. Now the bus is no different from the subway. I think I am going to end up doing what Mr. Pink did and buy a car. That will go a long way to reducing pollution and easing traffic congestion. 
My neighbor, you know the one with all those porn cards all over his cars windows, dusted off the car and took it to work today. I expect we will see a lot more traffic now.
Way to go Korea! You are truly the tub of asia! |

Yep same story here. Coming home was worse as the driver only turned the AC on for about two minutes of the journey. In fact the bus driver seemed to be complaining aloud to the whole bus about something - a lot of ajumas were nodding and shouting comments to him too. Dearly wish I could've understood it...
Not only that but my travel card, which should have some money on it, doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something? Do I ahve to get a new one or just get it recharged?
I am seriously considering investing in a little scooter. I could be into work in about ten minutes on it despite the risk to my life. WIth the buses the way they have become, my life seems at risk anyway. |

Wow. You folks have all had pretty crummy experiences with the new system. That sux, I admit. But personally, I've got nothing but GOOD things to say:
1st: Double the number of buses from my work to home (Sinchon to Hongje-dong)
2nd: Much fewer passengers. I've had a seat each time so far.
3rd: MUCH MUCH MUCH more courteous drivers. They're waiting for the ajummas to sit before flooring it, and they're actually driving so carefully they could be acused of being SLOW. I actually had a driver ASK ME, IN HIS BEST ENGLISH if I was sure I was on the right bus!!!
4th: I'm a traffic engineer. I appreciate how incredibly hard it is to design a functional, efficient public transport system. Kudos to the city planners. (although I do have my doubts about the safety of the central bus lanes) |

The streets in Korea can be a complicated web of twists and turns, causing much confusion to the first time visitor. Although all of Seoul's buildings have their proper addresses, few people use the actual street name or building number to identify the building. The easiest method of finding one's way around Seoul is to recall a prominent landmark near the destination.

You expect otherwise? Seoul is one of the worlds biggest cities. Further to that, it's in Asia. Those facts alone guarantee that Seoul is a complicated mess.
My point is that given said complicated mess, the city planners have done a good job rehabilitating the bus service. It's a hard thing to do in a small, organised city - it would have been a mammoth task in Seoul. |

My question is:
If I take a green bus, and I'm not transferring, I only have to scan my card once, right? I mean, the system doesn't somehow think that I'm riding the same bus forever, does it? Please tell me I'm not racking up tens of thousands of won in bus fares on my credit card.

When you get off the green bus, pass your card over the sensor at the back door. This will give you 30 mins of time during normal hours to transfer to another bus or subway.
Trouble is with half the buses on our route that you can't hope to get off at the back some mornings. The front door is a two way street. |
