My boss informed me yesterday that there was going to be a meeting of all of the foreign teachers in Bucheon in the Bucheon Ministry of Education on July 13th. I then asked him if it's really necessary for me to go and he said it's mandatory. I'm not sure what it's about but I'm not sure that I believe him that it's really "mandatory" (as another teacher is allowed to miss out due to another job in Seoul). It's supposed to be in the morning of July 13th but I have other things to do at that time and I cannot go.

My question is: has anyone else been to a meeting like this and if you have, what is it about?

What kind of school do you work for? Is it a public elementary school, a hagwon, or something else? If it's a hagwon, then it's unlikely that this is really mandatory.

Yeah, they do this from time to time. At my last hakwon in Ilsan, the MOE did the same thing, it's a seminar course about Korea, and teaching. The boss got us out of it, he had some connections, but it's no biggie. Bring a book and sit at the back of the room, that's my advice.

Just don't go and say you did. Unless you have to go with your director, who's going to know?

I don't understand the problem. You don't want to go, correct? Then just tell your boss, "sorry I'm not going." Problem solved.
