I've never had it and never want to try it. I love animals. I believe they have feelings like we do.
When I was a little girl, I used to live with my witchy grandmother for a while. She and her friends had this monthly dog-eating party; yes, it was sickening to watch it.
There were about 20 people in the group. Each person had a dog and took a turn providing his/her dog for a party. It means each person had about twenty months spent with his/her dog.
I couldn't understand as to why my grandma couldn't just go buy fresh meat at the market instead of killing our cute dogs. I used to go take a walk while this cruel, inhumane, senseless act took its place.....I couldn't stand the sound; the sound of whining, barking, howling, and crying. My brother once told me that he was offered to eat a fresh brain by a drunk ajushi. So sick.

We farm and breed life to destroy it for the pleasure of the palate. Nothing personal, but 'killed as humanely as possible' is paying lip service to the guilty conscience. |

Is it better to raise an animal and then kill it to eat, or raise an animal, beat it silly and then kill it to eat?
I prefer to not eat animals that eat mainly meat. Of course dogs can do quite well with an omnivorous diet, and cows and pigs eat meat thanks to modern farming methods. |

The best would be to not eat animals at all.
I never criticise anyone for eating meat.....it is more the principles I am questioning. The kind of people who express outrage at the abuse of animals only to dine on a fat steak the very same evening. |

If you worry about that, fine.
I don't make ethical distinction between plant life and animal life when it comes to furthering my own.
Unrelated to killing, I care for my pets, and also love my house plants.
Killing is a fact of nature.
I would have no problem slaughtering an animal myself to eat it. I don't believe in toying with the animal or torturing it first. Life should be beautiful, and death come quickly.
I do think modern farming techniques are horrible to animals, though. I think most people would be incapable of killing an animal to eat it. |

Once. My co-workers got a big refund (for what I have no idea) and asked me to join them. Me not wanting to wuss out was, admittedly, my reason for going.
It was OK. The soup was pretty tasty, except for the dog, which was kinda greasy and tasted like how a wet dog smells. Still, the hostess of the restaurant kept giving me free booze, I suppose because she was impressed (I've found this is not hard -- I can utter "please sit down" to an elderly gentleman on the subway and make it look like I can walk on water, which I can).
So, in conclusion, dog doesn't taste very good. It's a made-up delicacy. But if you're supplying the booze, I'd probably eat my weight in dirt.

sparkles - yu should have tried some better quality dog meat. the soup is usually made from bad cuts - as soup always is. but if yu order the chongol yu get really high quality tender meat - tasting a bit like yearling mutton. i licked my plate clean!
someone expressed concern about eating carnivours. while there is some truth in this if the meat is well cooked it does not matter. also, there are heaps of parasites in the meat of herbivours too. raw fish is a good way to get parasites incidentally. |

Yeah, they had the better quality, too. It was a course meal. Still, I found it too greasy.

That is what I am talking about. I still fail to see the hypocrisy in eating meat and being against excessive torture.
I understand that there is no such thing as a humane death... but sometimes my feelings and sentiments are constricted by the English language and my ability to use it as effectively as I would like to.

I agree that modern practices of farming animals are disgusting and foul (to say it kindly). However, I won't judge people because they choose not to eat an animal that is tortured to death in one of the most cruel ways that an animal could be killed.
If someone won't eat them cause they are cute... get over it... personally I think pigs are cuter than a lot of dogs! and bring on the ~!!! |

Me too. Many many many times. I love it. Last time was last night.
We had a table outside. This big beautiful and very friendly orange cat came up to me to say hi. So, I gave him a piece of meat. He loved it. My students thought it was so funny to see a cat eating a dog.

Yes, I know that. As you know, my chickens were pets. But we used to get big tubs of fried chicken from KFC and the chickens loved to eat the leftovers. They also can catch a mouse and eat it faster than any cat.
The fact that my chickens were pets and KFC chickens were dinner maybe is why I have no problems with some dogs being pets, and others being dinner.
