I completely agree with the idea that people of all nationalities lie. However, the rest of Pyongshin Sangja's response is plausible only if the director lied about the "Canadian" working there two years ago. If the period of employment is not a lie, then the "hypothetical foreigner" is already out of the contract and is unlikely to be trying to collect severance pay two years later. At the same time, if her writing is an indication of her intelligence, then maybe she is still trying to collect severance.
By the way, my responses should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the school. I don't like the fact that the only contact they provided is from two years ago. That raises more red flags to me than anything else. 1) A lot can change in two years. 2) Does that mean that none of the other teachers have been happy there? |

The OP has not mentioned the name of the school. This thread is in no way similar to what you posted. |

| I don't think there is anyway that letter can be from a foreigner. There are plenty of functional illiterates out there, I know, but that letter reeks of broken English being put down on paper. Look no further than "Costco Happy!!!!" for all the proof you need satisfied!!! |

Definitely could be a foreigner trying to sound informal (because they think that's more trustworthy), possibly with a bit of cut and paste. Some mistakes don't sound like any native speaker I've ever heard (and I don't mean standard English, either)...but I could be wrong.
I would ask for a phone number of a current teacher. If they had to give you a teacher from two years ago, it seems like they know the current teachers and ones before them weren't very happy with the school. If they can't give you contact information for a current teacher, something is wrong (don't believe their excuses). Bad schools are abundant here, but they all claim they're good. |

1) That's why I asked if people wanted me to post the name of the school and director, rather than just doing it.
2) I didn't work for them but I did have a legitimately bad/questionable experience with them myself; I didn't just hear about it from someone else and decide to write about it. |

If it were me I'd keep going for more information from the "Canadian." I have emails from Americans with many typos and stupid things, and have been know to do it myself. I admit "Costco Happy" sounds like konglish, but maybe that's the name of the store? I'd email the "former teacher" back and ask if I could please ask some questions on the phone. I wouldn't come on immediately as being suspicious. Get all the information you can before making a decision and if you can't get it, I'd seek elsewhere. As for her being overly positive, some people actually have good experiences and would be this positive. I would, if someone asked me about my former school.
Please do keep us posted. This is an interesting mystery.

Sounds fishy (peechy) to me, too. It reads as though at the beginning the writer is more enthusiastic about trying to seem correct, but then the letter fades in quality as it wears on, as the writer tires from the effort.
Definitely "sounds" like a korean response.
You'll have to check the reference further and let us know.
Good mystery . . . |

I can't see the major problem.
If a everyday Korean could write that well we wouldn't be needed.
I can see negative things in her email about there being no cirriculum and you might need to broaden your horizons about food. |
