The open mouth and lookin of uncomprehension when you ask a simple question.

Having them to ask a friend for a translation of what you said

Be doing english for over 5 years and have trouble putting a sentence together.

YOUR FELLOW KOREAN ENGLISH TEACHING COWORKERS!

My head teacher for one school speaks horrible english. Can not put a sentence togother with out thinking a minute. Writes yoda like messages. (heck I understand Yoda I barely comprehend her messages). And the has been teaching english for over 5 years (at this one school).

I have other teachers who are supposed to be ENGLISH teachers be confused by a simple question or statement like - "How was your weekend?" or "I like your earrings!".

On the other end I have very capable and knowledgeable coworkers. Can talk away the day with them

But this mystifies me. Why do these teaches get a job teaching english when the can not speak it.

ARGH make me want to scream!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Skippy, because you are not a native speaker of English, but you have reached a fairly high level of proficiency, you will tend to be harder on others who are speaking English as a second language.

According to the FL literature, you would also be harder on your students than a native speaker. I also know this from my own experience. When I was in ther USA I taught both French and ESL. I was much harder on my French students (Americans) than I was on my ESL students.

However, please don't be too hard on them. Although your post was quite good, there were a few too many problems. Very Happy

I do, however, congradulate you on your willingness to speak English with the other Korean teachers. I have found that even Korean English professors with PhD's in English ONLY use Korean with each other.

Actually, after I had posted on this thread I noticed it was almost 11:30 PM. I was in the library which closes at 11:00. Always a few minutes before 11:00 the old man at the desk at the entrance tells me it is time to go. He is a nice old guy, and sometimes gives me one of the bottles of vitamine drinks.

Well, last night at 11:30, as I was leaving, I saw him at his desk face down.

I thought, Oh My God, he is dead. Shocked Crying or Very sad What should I do? So,
I cleared my throat a bit. Nothing. Then I coughed. Nothing. Then did the same thing over and over ....... each time a little louder. Then he woke up. Very Happy

He looked at his watch, then he looked at me and realised what I had thought was the problem. Then he said, "Not dead". Laughing
