Knowing Koreans, I am wondering how many go unreported.

I posted something on this a while ago... and it was something like 3 new cases reported every two days...
the real issue is... how many koreans do you know that have been tested for the disease??

I'd suggest the rate is much higher than that

I'm waiting for Real Reality on this one (more stats).

When sex was a theme of classroom discussion, my adult students said they don't wear condoms and yet they have sex with women whom they pay. They didn't seem concerned about the habit.

I've told them that nearly a million Chinese have it. And they just choose not to believe it. "Africa and America have it," they keep saying, as if it's not a problem elsewhere.

Just one case is too many if it's someone you know.

I tested negative a few months back, quite a relief. I'm determined not to put myself at unneccesary risk ever again...

I don't think the usual stubborn attitudes of Koreans are going to change fast enough to prevent an explosion of HIV in this country, sad to say:

I remember another poster bringing up figures in February which showed that 94% of the cases were male, yet only 48% were homosexual. There are a few closet gays in Korea for damned sure. Considering the difficulty in contracting the disease for a heterosexual male even without a condom I would suggest that up to 80% of those cases are homosexual.

40 million people worldwide are affected by the aids pandemic: 6 mill. of them have no access to treatment of any kind.

302 is of course a drop in the ocean. But if the infection rate doubles every six months Korea will be in serious trouble, soon. i haven't even noticed any govt. advertising in the media, or warning stickers on condom vending machines, for example...

I have been chatting with a Korean girl on Korean Friendfinder for some time now, and she comes across on the cam quite well. Quite attractive and all. Anyway she decides she's in love with a U.S. soldier, and moves closer to where he is so she can be with him. I have course did my bit, and she was being unwise moving in with him with out a firm commitment for marriage. Said she was Ok and blah, blah blah.
I met up with her on the msn mesenger a week ago, and she says she is feeling very weak of late , and has been seeing her doctor. The doctor told her that it was or could be HIV. I said nothing of course, but then she asks me what "HIV" is? I have never met her personally, but it's just one of those internet meetings that has continued. I didn't have the heart to tell her what it was at the time so I e mailed her later telling her to shut up about it until she had a blood test.
This young lady has graduated from college, and studied German in Germany for a year. Not your basic etaewon girl either. For the life of me though I couldn't figure out why she didn't know what "HIV" was.

Touching post. A co- worker of mine couldn't figure out what her coldsore was, or how she got it... the ignorance is deeeep in this country..reminds me of a bible verse: "My people die for lack of knowledge"....

If there was no AIDS test to base this on this was as extraordinarily unproffesional thing to do.

Regarding the comment about a co-worker's cold sore....

I wrote a play about AIDS a few years ago and worked with a local AIDS group when I was doing my research. They were saying that typically the lesions are a symptom specific to men . The female equivalent would be swollen glands.

But cold sores are a different form of herpes.... Shocked
