I know this isnt the right forum to be posting on, but I got the news that my father passed away last night. And needed to get on the forum that most people will see

Now my problem is that its high season, and I need to get a ticket back to Oz asap. Iv'e heard that there are compassionate grounds that I can apply for, but have no real idea about how it works.

If anyone can point me in the right direction asap, I would be greatly appreciative.

Sorry to hear about your loss. This is my experience - I received a phone call saying my grandmother was very ill and I should book a flight out in the next week. I did that. The next day I received another call saying that she would not last until the end of the week.

I phoned the airline and asked for a seat for compassionate reasons - they agreed but required a fax from the doctor stating the urgency of the immediate flight. My aunt asked the doctor to do this and I was on the next flight out.

Made it in around 9PM that night and she was aware I was there - we were very close. My father arrrived at midnight (the last of 9 children to arrive) and she passed away at 2 AM. Very glad the airline helped me to say good by.
