I take it you didn't get a good cut? I haven't had any problems so far. I've gotten my hair cut three times, and each time I was very happy. OK, one time they cut it a little shorter than what I wanted, but it wasn't too bad.

just had my first hair cut in Korea and all went smoothly, though I did have a Korean collegue along to aid my attempts to explain what I wanted...... and at 9,000 won it seemed like a bargain.....

Uberscheisse, tell us where you went so others can avoid it.
I like Uno because they cut my hair exactly as say; a little pricey but worth it.

My hair was looking much like old sirus blacks in that avatar so I decided to get it cut ( though I had promised my parents I would grow it).
Knowing the last few times I had gone to get it cut I was unhappy, I thought...hmmm what if I find a hairdo and bring in a picture.

Since a lot of people back home think I look like ellen degeneres, I decided hey what's good for Ellen is good for me. I printed the picture and went to my usually place but it was too busy.

Considering chickening out until after getting my scooter fixed I spotted a place that didn't look to busy and it looked pretty clean.

I had to wait about ten minutes in which I evaluated the hairdo of my potiential hairdresser (*would you get your hair done by a hairdresser with bad hair?)

So it was my turn in the chair, showed the picture and Voila! Easy..exactly what I wanted and only cost me 5000won

yeah i'm mostly just traumatized. i hate getting my hair cut like most people hate going to the dentist.

the place is "from japan" on the border of apkujeong/sinsadong. they did my coworker's hair just fine. what happened is this:

i sat down. i have long-ish red/blonde hair and said "trim, please" indicating i only wanted about 2 inches off.

she proceeded to give me all these weird wispy sideburns and (beep) all over my head. i'm supposing her rationale was "well, blond hair... he must want to look like YU-GI-OH!" or like some dongdaemun mall fashion victim with phat pants and a pound of metal hanging off my face.

i got her to stop, but by the time it dawned on me that my hair was making a drastic turn for the worse, she had gouged certain sections of hair in such a way that the only way to salvage my rugged handsomnisity was to go much shorter. and she did a decidedly sloppy job doing it, i didn't notice until i got home.

i'd go back to get it fixed but with the language barrier i don't want to get roped into paying another 15,000...

next time i'll bring that picture. babo (pounds forehead).

i absolutely hated getting a hair cut in korea. it wasnt anyones fault but my own because i couldnt tell them exactly what i wanted. i do study korean, but for some reason you never practice the hair cut conversation!

anyway, it was always a good battle to avoid having my side burns cut off and ending up looking like a k-pop reject.

I think I look better with short hair, so I just tell them 'chalkea' (short) and let them cut to their heart's content. I rarely get bad haircuts. Just stay away from the 'trendy' places because chances are Korean trends aren't to your tastes. Better yet, find someone who cuts your hair the way you like it and stick with them.

I'm not too picky about my haircuts. I always get a standard soldier-style cut anyways. This is good advice... get your hair cut right and stick to that place. Then when you come in, tell them "toe ka tay" (the same) or something like that.

I always sit and say chocum - a little. Which they then do. And if I want a bit more, I say chocum doh chew say oh - a little more please.

Seems to work.

Of course, if you ask for elaborate styles, you'll end up confusing the barber/hair dresser. Don't get angry. When you think about it, the source of the problem is that you can't speak Korean.

My first 5 or 6 haircuts in Korea left me looking like a soldier. Shaved the sides COMPLETELY off, the back too, but left it longish on top. Whenever we move, I have to find another shop that will give me a decent cut, not too short or too long. The wife has it in her head that a 5000won cut from the Blue Club is fine. At least the one stylist can do a good job. I always go with her. She does a good job of it, but the first time I didn't like it too much. The wife convinced me otherwise. Just hope that stylist doesn't quit anytime soon. Laughing

"chew say oh"

Got my first haircut last Saturday. The guy (if this wasn't Korea, I'd swear he's gay -- not that there's anything wrong with that) gave me a very large book and said "style?" Took me a good few minutes to get out of the "crazy" range and into the sensible. I am for the most part pleased.

Where's the before and after pics?

About six months ago a barber left me with a mini mullet. It was fine when short, but bugged the hell out of me when it was long. It took 2 more tries to get it right because they kept repeating the same style.

i love getting hair cuts here...they know how to cut my hair and clean ya off after the cut. back in the states, most people sucked at cutting my hair. (then again, i'm gyopo and have korean hair, so that probably is why i think the hair cuts are good)
