Do you guys know what months are the months when most of the jobs are available in Korea, especially Seoul? I am not available until Dec 04/Jan 05 and I am wondering if I will be able to find a plethora of jobs open in that time fame winter/early spring maybe. I want to be able to take a good job and not some shady hogwan that will screw me over.........what do ya'll think Smile

Hagwans hire year round. There's no real hiring season for hagwans.

Public schools hire for March generally, though sometimes, due to expansion or a runner Confused they will hire at other times during the year.

Universities hire for March and August, I believe.

ok so just about any month there are a lot of teaching jobs to pick from? Well, jobs to interview for at least. I don.t wanna sound cocky but I don.t want to get ripped off either and live out some of those horror stories that some of the people have posted on here. Those stories scared me, but I am still going, and taking the advice in the FAQ on how to not get screwed.

thanks for the help

If you are here already visit the schools. If not do your homework, make sure you know what you are getting yourself into and get the names of current employees so you can talk to them and see how day to day life is.

Partially true. Some Hakwons bulk up their staff right before real schools go on vacation. Korean kids and university students get two months vacation during the summer and two months during the winter. What do you think a lot of them do during that time? Yup, a lot of them take extra hakwon classes.

A lot of the increased demand is covered by overtime or registering classes to or above max enrollment limits. Some of it is covered by temps, either illegals or F-class visa holders. Some of it is covered by hiring more permanent, full-time staff.

yeah I am not there yet and am not yet sure if I will be able to go on my own and interview in person to see whats up with the situation. How long would it take me to get a job if I just flew over there on a tourist visa and did the visa run, I hear I would need about 2 to 3K to live on while I am finding a job

what do you think?

Well, you school has to sponsor your visda run, I believe. No school, no visa run. I'm not sure about how long it would take, flying over here and then finding a job. I've never done it, but I'm sure if you did a search or go through the FAQ forum, you'll find some answers to your questions. It's not an uncommon thing to do.
