Ska isn't punk, it's *beep*.

I know ska preceeded reggae, but sometimes it's hard to believe. I hate ska, it's so fast and has no feel. Reggae on the other hand is music the way god intended ...

most modern ska is way too fast and has that annoying, fast "dink-dink-dink" guitar technique throughout ALL of it.

the older stuff is slower, has way more swagger, and of course goes back to the "dink dink dink" now and then. dig deep and some of the old stuff is incredible.

note to ghetto-party people, the playground in the middle of that park in hongdae is DOPE for drinking in ghettostyle. i had a blast the last time i went there.

last time I hung around there at the weekend there were these two white hippy girls doing yoga on silver matts.

"Oh we're not looking for attention, I'm just balancing Jocasta's chakra points and it's so much nicer to do it whilst surronded by nature.
Please, buy our tie-dye t-shirts, the cotton's organic"

Say what you will, but seeing a live rock band of any genre, hell even country rock, while here in Korea, is an infinitely better than K-pop or the techno crap they play in nightclubs. Razz

I admit I don't know much about the genre and most of what I like might fall under "ska lite" but yeah, the Specials and the English Beat were pretty cool.

a few names for you Katydid: Aura, Soundholic, Ssamzie space (?), Drug Club (it's in LP so I know it exists but have never seen it).

The best hunting ground seems to be the street that runs alongside the uni gates, in the direction of Sinchon rather than the other way to US66.

drug is now SKUNK HELL. It's in the alleyway opposite US 66.
other clubs are as Swiss said plus Freebird, Slug.er, Evans, Jammers, Rolling Stones (closer to sinchon), bbang (back gate of ewha) and probably some others i've forgotten.

Ever listened to Me, Mom, and Morgentaler? Not pure ska, but pretty good.

Space Club is not re-opened, it is gone. The new name is "Old Town Seoul" and it looks really nice. That and the new Seoul Pub "Lucky Strike" are gonna change that hill mark my words.
