Although some people need their appendix taken out, I've never heard of a person with a foreskin dying because they didn't get it chopped off.

Well, there are cases where the foreskin may be too tight to allow proper flow of various fluids. But they're the minority.

I certainly won't get it done to my kid.

Too true. Although my parents had it done to me, it's all right. I don't hate them for it. I just wouldn't have it done to my kid either.

And to Marista99, very good point. The boob job thing. Can you imagine what would happen if a circumcision cost $5,000? And caused accute back pain over the long haul? And prevented one from staying afloat whilst swimming?

I think I'll get my son snipped when the time comes. Why not? Ain't gonna hurt nothing and saves him five seconds of cleaning.

But, if I think about it... then when he's a rebellious teenager, I can always threaten to snip the tip if he doesn't do what I say... hmmm... effective punishment?

But you grew up in Korea, and are now living in America? That's an average of 87% of male population circumcision.

Real stats are here, though. Out of English countries, only popular in the States, and not West coast at that.

I guess your friends will have lower odds with real men.

I seriously doubt if when it comes down to the crunch any girl's going to take a look down there and say- "You know what, I thought we were going to do the wild thing, but it turns out you've got a foreskin. Can you call me a cab?"

Finding it interesting how many circ'd men are saying they wouldn't get it done to their kids- Prince Charles had the same thought as you guys by the way, and broke royal tradition by not getting his sons cut.

(forgive me for jumping in on what is clearly a male subject here) But while I agree the medical benefits of circumcision might not actually exist, where's the harm? Especially if it's done when you're a baby and you don't remember?

Plus, honestly, I think it looks better.

Do you think if there was some kind of surgery that women could have performed on their genitals that had no concrete benefits, but looked more attractive to men, it would be popular?

Have a look at this:

One of the procedures you are talking about here is called a clitoridectomy. There is another that involves a needle and thread to make certain openings smaller and more pleasurable for men. Both procedures are performed all over the 3rd world with sometimes little more than a broken coke bottle and a board to bite on. Many women/girls die from these procedures. There are some very good books on this subject. I saw a photographic journal of one such operation on a four year old girl in a South American country and it was barbaric. There is one book in particular that is very worth the read and not at all a difficult read. I will post later when I figure out what it's title is.

What's the routine in the West. Lop off the foreskin at birth? Rather a rude greeting to the world.
"Ok, here I am in this warm 'romper womb' listening to 'Mother radio' for nine months or however long it has been when there's some kind of commotion outside. The walls are heaving like there's some kind of earthquake. Where am I headed? I can't breathe. What is this 'breathing'. Gotta catch my breath, whatever a breath is. This is intense. And bright, cold, lots of 'noise pollution'. Is Mom all right? What happened to the soothing warm liquid and mellow darkness. Hey, what are you doing with that knife?!. Aghhh!".

that's how long it takes them to grow a foreskin in the first place.

I know. Lots of boys and girls also contract HIV because they keep using the same rusted razor blades.

Oh, please. Most women wouldn't know the difference between cut and uncut if a guy gets it up before they have a peek.

Most women think that peni in general are gross. So, why not make it look pretty so we wants to kiss it? Laughing AND YES, we can tell the difference. We go buy grocery all the time. A mushroom without the head.....???? Oh, we can tell the difference. On Sex and the City, the sweet gurl, Charlotte was horrified to find that she's dating an uncircumcised man. Just accept it, boys.....girls don't like un-cut. We think it's gross.
