Year one: I was told flat out not to give any grade lower than a 'C' Mostly 'A's and some 'B's. We also had to write at least 3 comments per child. I felt and still feel they should have put the cards on a computer and allowed us to type in our comments. Writing 90 report cards a month was a pain in the ass. I eventually got a rubber stamp saying

' is a good student who is working well in class, still needs to study harder and work on thier reading and speaking skills. Keep up the good work and you will continue to approve'

Management wasnt too happy with the stamp but as I had more comments per student they didnt say anything....the other foreign teachers however were right pissed off that I got away with it Laughing

That must have been a very wide stamp!!! Be fun to have some stamps to use on the students forehead. Very Happy

A former co-worker of mine had inherited a class with the son of satan in it. He wrote a bad report card. Kid disappeared for a couple of weeks then returns and shock horror starts behaving and doing his work! Makes me wish I had written that kid a nasty report card to start off with then enduring 3 months of his crap.

My report cards for the kids' programs are 100% honest in every way shape and form. Just like none of my university students ever receive inflated grades. And none ever deserve to fail.

I'd care more if I thought it would actually make a difference. But what are the chances that (a) the parent can read English and (b) will care or even believe what a foreigner has to say about their kid.

I tried writing real comments on my report cards for a bit when I first came here, but then found out the Korean teacher was changing them completely when she translated.

These days I have stopped caring and just write what ever he-who-gives-me-my-paycheck wants. I save my dignity and integrity for the classroom where I can make a real difference.

I was told at my present school that though the parents can't understand a lick of what I write, I should do report cards because it makes the school look better. The result is, I don't care what I write. Anyways, not even the head teacher can usually grasp what I write, even when it is simple.

I just stick to one theme and one formula for all my report cards so I can turn them out pretty quickly.

true, it's amazing how many of them don't even get comments like "needs improvement" or "attitude needs work" or "needs to pay more attention in class".

I have puzzled many a Korean teacher with my comments that certain students have bad attitudes. They always ask me what I mean and do not seem to get the picture of a sullen kid, who doesn't necessarily say or do anything "bad" or disrespectful per se, but who just doesn't want to be there and who would rather play with his pencil than listen to the teacher.

And on that note, at my first college I had a kindergarden boy who was crawling around on the floor under the desk. When I asked him what he was looking for. He said, "My rubber". Shocked

I already knew that he had spent the first 5 years of his life in England. So, I understood. Laughing

When I was doing my BA I learned that rubber was British English for eraser. I was in the college bookstore. There was a German student there. The lady at the counter asked what he needed. He said a rubber Embarassed Shocked .

Well, it was a small Christian college, and the old lady almost fainted.

She then said, not here, go to the Drug Store. He then said, Oh, I see them, and picked up an eraser and put it on the counter.

Laughing

If I were allowed to be brutally honest, I would have only four write-ups in my repertoire:

1: "Your child tries not to piss me off on a regular basis, but still does sometimes."

2: "The only thing your child can do is talk about feces."

3: "Your child is not smart. Pick him/her up a 7/11 application now and get it over with."

4: "Congratulations - I hate your child."

used to write them last year, thankfully not htis time around. was honest, when i could actually be bothered, otherwise same message differnt words for everyone, had one teacher who used words even i couldnt understand, blew the kids away in some, but his thinking "big words means teacher cares and my son is excellent"! worked for him but i dont that many big words that are insulting! anyway, my hogwan did put out warnings for grades, but i got to the stage that the director didnt want any more tirades from me, so stopped commenting on my honest grades. anyway, im sure my primary school teachers at home were a lot more generous with me than they should have been, but my mum could read through those lines and still blast me a bad report card.

Check the rest of this thread, Sherlock. Not a lot of shiny, happy people on the whole. People seem to single me out, though. Probably because there's truth in everything I say, and I say it well. Cool

Well check out the rest of your posts there Watson. Your recurring theme is that you sound like a cynical, angry bitter person who doesn't like it here. if thats the case then bugger off.
