A former co-worker of mine had inherited a class with the son of satan in it. He wrote a bad report card. Kid disappeared for a couple of weeks then returns and shock horror starts behaving and doing his work! Makes me wish I had written that kid a nasty report card to start off with then enduring 3 months of his crap.

My report cards for the kids' programs are 100% honest in every way shape and form. Just like none of my university students ever receive inflated grades. And none ever deserve to fail.

I'd care more if I thought it would actually make a difference. But what are the chances that (a) the parent can read English and (b) will care or even believe what a foreigner has to say about their kid.

I tried writing real comments on my report cards for a bit when I first came here, but then found out the Korean teacher was changing them completely when she translated.

These days I have stopped caring and just write what ever he-who-gives-me-my-paycheck wants. I save my dignity and integrity for the classroom where I can make a real difference.

I was told at my present school that though the parents can't understand a lick of what I write, I should do report cards because it makes the school look better. The result is, I don't care what I write. Anyways, not even the head teacher can usually grasp what I write, even when it is simple.

I just stick to one theme and one formula for all my report cards so I can turn them out pretty quickly.

If I were allowed to be brutally honest, I would have only four write-ups in my repertoire:

1: "Your child tries not to piss me off on a regular basis, but still does sometimes."

2: "The only thing your child can do is talk about feces."

3: "Your child is not smart. Pick him/her up a 7/11 application now and get it over with."

4: "Congratulations - I hate your child."

used to write them last year, thankfully not htis time around. was honest, when i could actually be bothered, otherwise same message differnt words for everyone, had one teacher who used words even i couldnt understand, blew the kids away in some, but his thinking "big words means teacher cares and my son is excellent"! worked for him but i dont that many big words that are insulting! anyway, my hogwan did put out warnings for grades, but i got to the stage that the director didnt want any more tirades from me, so stopped commenting on my honest grades. anyway, im sure my primary school teachers at home were a lot more generous with me than they should have been, but my mum could read through those lines and still blast me a bad report card.
