Yeah, in this weather I wouldn't be surprised if they canceled some of the ferry service... And who'd want to go during a downpour like this anyway?
But I'm totally game for an excursion. Swiss James, there are ferries to some of the islands from that little quay on Yongjong-do, aren't there? (or Yongjeong-do.. whatever ... the Airport Island, I call it) I've got one of those officetels near the Hyatt, 4 min. from the PAX terminal by shuttle. I get down there one or two weeks out of the month for airport-related work. We should link up sometime.

| It didn't rain out there all weekend. (And even if it had I was out of Seoul). It was overcast the entire time. It was a good time even though I was by myself although I could have done without seeing the dog hung from the pier this morning. |

| Yes, I've been to Jangbongdo, but I don't particularly recommend it. The beaches are pretty much all rocky there. It's good mostly for fishing, as near as I can tell. One thing that's kind of cool about it is that it is connected to the other three islands in that little archipelago (Modo, Sido, and Sindo), so you could bike, walk, or rollerblade along the whole stretch. |

| I was thinking of checking out Baengnyeondo perhaps but I think I'll take your recommendation on Jawoldo for my next venture probably next weekend. |

| Baengnyeongdo is a 4 hour ferry ride each way. You pretty much need a long weekend in order to make it worthwhile, I'd imagine. Of course, every time I try to book ferry tickets for a long weekend it's sold out, so I wouldn't know from firsthand experience. |

| Why so long? It doesn't look much further than Deokjeokdo. That must be one hell of a slow boat. |

Went to Deokjeokdo at the weekend, had a great time but was eaten alive by the mossies.

No, your situation was odd. When I went out there, we were having dinner and the guy put some mogihyang under the table. Every possible insect was attracted to the light at our outdoor table, and subsequently died from the mogihyang and fell into the food. |

That map is nowhere near being to scale. Try checking this one for a better idea of how far away from Incheon Baengnyeongdo is. It's romanized here as Paengnyong-do, and it's in near Changyon and Ongjin in North Korea.

I know that you can catch a ferry from the Jawoldo ferry port to the Moraetop, because I saw it listed on the schedule there, but that's all I can tell you for sure. I can't imagine you'd want to stay there for more than a few hours, because as far as I could see from the pictures, it's just a little island made of sand, and nothing else.
If you go there, please take and post some pictures, and tell us about it. I'm really curious!
On Jawoldo, make sure your minbak has bikes, 'cuz most of them do. Ride that bike over to the north side of the island for a great look at some untouched Korean countryside. Trust me, you won't regret it. |
