The communication barrier is just as much our fault as theirs.
So let me ask another question:
What can we do to help break the ice?

after they ask how long i've been here, i often offer personal information; then i ask them a question or two. this is not unlike the way i chat with strangers/neighbors anywhere. Smile

"Where are you from?"

--The United States

"But your face is Korean!"

--Yes, I know. My home is in the U.S., but my mother and father are Laotian.

"What?!? Where?"

--Do you know where Vietnam is, or Cambodia?

"What???"

--Ok, I'm from Tae-gook

"Oh, yes! Very nice"

----------> That's what I say when I'm lazy. It's close enough for me.

Arthur Fonzarelli, you get that the world over, as well as family reunions and your mother's birthday-you're special that way.
