Mad Irish woman lost in Mokpo! Just arrived here 2 days ago and any advice where to go is in serious demand please! I am the first native English teacher that my institute has ever had, and marvellous that my new work colleagues are, they all have their own personal lives.

get yourself down to hadang and hang out on the esplanade right on the water.. plenty of restaurants and bars around there and it is not too bad on the eye either

gwangjung is what you say to the taxi driver..

i can't remember but.. i think it's lotte mart that is right next to the water down there.. it could be sang dong..

anyways.. nice joint down there.. probably my favorite place in korea..

there are quite a few foreigners down there too.. a lot work in the shipyards and there are also a few miners.. generally they all kinda hang together on friday and saturday nights..

in hadang.. there is a bar called 'new york bar'.. generally you'll find foreigners there on the fridays and saturdays also a beer joint called jokky jokky..

being that it is a pretty small place the other foreigners are more than friendly enough and will invite you to hang with them.. maybe i'm just a cool customer and they wanted to hang with me Rolling Eyes

if you are an early bird.. there are always some old drunk koreans outside the train station at 6am that you can drink with.. i did and they are champs..

hello,
i used to live in mokpo. its quite a nice place. there used to bea ton of irish girls that livd there. they all worked for one of those big chain schools in hadang. where do you live in mokpo?

i lived in hadang. last time i was there was at christmas. i think the wa bar is the place to meet people. teachers and lots of boys from teh ship yards. its quite nice. also maybe jokki jokki.

as for other things to do- wolchusan park is only an hour or so away and is quite nice for hiking and temples, etc. take a bus from the bus station behind emart.

there are ferries out to the islands that are quite nice with little villages and stuff. hongdo is beautiful. i havent been, but seen pictures.

there is kwangju if you like the big citything.

if you go to the bridge from hadang to the shipyards you can see some canoes on the hadang side on teh left. there is a korean canoeing club a friend of mine went to.

texas moon bar downtown. if you get off at the bus station (big intercity station) its back the roads across the street in teh shopping district on the side of yudalsan. the same street the buddhist store is on, maybe if you went around asking for "Bucha store theycould point you in the direction, then walk back down 20 meters.

cant remember anything else. the waterfront in hadang is nice, used to have fires on the rocks below the walk and chill.

had a motorcycle (be careful, i didnt and it hurt) but touring around the countryside on it or a scooter have been my favorite times in korea so far.

quercus, did I see the word "canoe" in yr post or doth mine eyes deceiveth me. Can you please, please expand on that. Anything that comes to mind!

Anything, even freudian slips. Were they racing canoes? Also known as kayaks.
