While I'm considering the public school (in another post) I've got an offer now from ECC.

Schedule:

M-W-F 3-9PM but 8 classes/day no break

T-TH 4:30-9PM 4-6 classes

40 mins classes

Pay: 2.1 total (1.9 original offer but 2.1 cause I have my own place)

Also you have to call all your students once a month for 2 min each kid and write those damn evaluation papers every month. Not so easy when you have hundreds of students.

Also, they make a mandatory 78,000 won deduction for pension (That you get back X2 at the end of the year) but I've never heard of that before. They said for all the deductions like health insurance and tax it would be about 175,000 won/month! Yikes! IS that normal these days (I've been working for a over a year without deductions Wink )

I'm getting pickier and pickier about jobs the longer I've been here but these days the job offers are getting worse (though not like when saturdays were required)

I was paying around 70,000/mnth for pension on my last contract, so that seems to be within your area. Don't know if that's in the same ballpark as others.

You get your pension back after you've filed for the refund and left Korea. If you are from North America. The US and Canada have agreements with Korea on this. Other countries don't have such agreement with Korea and teachers from those countries cannot get refunds.

EFL Law covers this more at http://www.efl-law.com/pension.html.

For me, that phone-teaching might make the difference, if it's a lot of kids. I had to do that for a bit and thoroughly hated it.

2.1 million and they dont provide accomadation! Please do not take this job, it will only encourage even more Hagwon owners to blatantly take the piss.

I've actually had a reasonably good time at ECC this year until now. At the moment as I'm finishing in a few days they're trying to screw me royally on my airticket and they want to fly me back to the UK via Bangkok! This flight will take 20 hours but it is the cheapest so they are not happy that I dont want it.

My bosses have revealed their vile cheapness with this cynical action.

Yeah I'm steering towards a no fast. The best part is that it's next to my place and the actual time at the school is pretty short. Then againm that would be a short time....IN HELL!

So they are offering you a 200,000 won housing bonus? In Seoul? Should be twice that, and the occassional kiss on the rump. You're the guy with a B.ed, right??? Colleges and unis are hiring now.....

I told the recruiter id take it if he did his job and got me a better deal instead of just saying "you sign contract? when you know answer? we need know today!"

I have an interview next week with the new public school deals...
