You know what Wylde. I say good for you.

Forget about what some of the little *beep* do-gooders want to say. Let them have their hagwon jobs.

thanks pal.

i have nothing against hakwon workers.. i was one once and would be again if the conditions were right.. fat chance that will happen in the near future though...

In the end wylde, I am sure you do a good job in the classroom, I just find your methods (even if they are used by some korean teachers) and especially the way you seem to get enjoyement out of them to be disturbing.

funny.. doesn't matter what you think.. the students respond well and the other teachers tell me that i handle students very well and praise me for it..

what i get is enjoyment from is my students paying attention. i love that i have these tools at my disposal to make it happen..

But, the tactics employed and seemingly approved of by wylde in his OP are not acceptable in a teacher-student interaction.

here where you are flat out wrong.. they are acceptable in a korean high school and i am respected more for doing it..

most of my tatics were copied from respected korean teachers... they may not be ok in homer world but they are where i am. so it is not ok that i twist a boys nipple but it is fine when i have a leak and 5 korean students come over and stare in awe at my tool? what about when the students come up to me and rub my nipples through my shirt, both boys and girls, thats ok?

you have it wrong mate...

korea is a different world.. you claim to know so much about it and rubbish me for things i dislike yet when i actually start to act like a korean you rubbish me still? Rolling Eyes

have a drink and chill out..

When in Seoul (or Taejeon, or Busan, or....), do as the Koreans.

Wylde,

Because some Korean teachers use physical punishement to discipline their students it does not follow that it is a good way to teach.

I got respect and enjoyment out of my students and job satisfaction and results without having to humiliate any of them or twist any nipples.

Different styles I suppose.

Um...the title of the post is "I love TEACHING high school". Not one thing about TEACHING! Strange! Perhaps "I love WORKING IN a high school" would have been a better title....

well... when i go to the can and have 5 korean boys standing around gawking in awe at my weapon... i kinda think twisting boys nipples is kinda soft..

you obviously miss the point entirely... i do love teaching high school.. what i love about it is i am a teacher and i have authority.

i'm a teacher.. i love that part.. love it.. i'm not a clown that needs to entertain students to keep the $$ rolling in for the hakwon..

Still...not ONE thing about TEACHING! Only about "authority" and "control"!

Example: I love teaching in a high school because my students are more comfortable using English than when they began.

Or: My students have learned "real" English and how to use it, as opposed to "book English".

My POINT is (and, yes...I agree...this is fun!!!) that YOUR idea of "teaching" is "I can control my students and do anything I want to/with them." And MY idea of teaching is "My students actually LEARN somthing without being humilitated!!!"

I'm sure glad that you weren't hired at MY uni!!! Wink

you should read more.. it will help you..

there are many threads i started about the differences in teaching at either place.. but you sitting up there on your high horse you probably couldn't see them.. huh?

i find it really pathetic that you choose to blast this thread when there is another one of the same topic only difference is it is hakwons with the same input that you choose bypass altogether. Wink

http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=24458

why aren't you into these guys? no reason? yeah.. i thought so..

they mention nothing about teaching either.. just 'what they love'

double standards, hypocrisy.. call it what you will
