Hello, I am planning to come to Seoul JOBLESS some time between Sept. 1st-15th. I wonder if this will be a good time to just show up there.
I mean, is this a good time to find many job openings?? Do the schools there work on the semester system?

Since i am a bit reluctant to sign a contract without seeing the school, meeting the teachers and supervisors, and without seeing the housing they offer, i plan to just show up there, and pay my own way for a couple of weeks while i look for work.

any advise? please reply. thanks.

Do you realize that you posted practically the same question 31 days ago? Here's the link to the thread:

I think you'll get pretty much the same answers. By the way, Waterbaby put it on the FAQs.

Since you didn't get it last time, I'll repeat one thing. Hagwons run on a monthly schedule. That means that if you come early September, you'll be applying for positions starting October 1st. If you get a job starting then, your first payday will be at the end of October.

When is the best time to go to Montreal, LA, NY, Rome, Paris...to find a job.
Try and be more vague...I'm practicing my mind reading skills.

It's also not a great time to look for work. The summer schedule is over and acadamies will have fewer students. September is the busiest months for firings as academies can now afford to lose the teachers they believe were bad or simply have issues with as student enrollment has reduced.

So while you're looking for work, you will be going up against a number of teachers already here who have experience.

Huh? That's not accurate. Adult hogwans often have starting dates from the beginning of a month, but start dates at all other places are scattered at all different times of the month. It depends on when the leaving teacher's last day of work is. There is no standardization of start dates here. Same with paydays, although most seem to be within the first 10 days after the previously worked month. But if he's coming over here and signing in person, he can easily negotiate an advance, if he needs.

To the OP, you will have just as much luck in September, as any time. Schools are always hiring. It will be determined by your planning and how thorough you conduct your job search once over here. Make some contacts in Seoul thru this site, who you can meet up with. Stay at a hostel, so you can meet and interact with other new teachers doing the same thing as you. Hostels usually have lots of info on teaching english and job bulletin boards. Qualify and work with a few select recruiters who you feel comfortable with. Let them know when you are coming to pre-arrange interviews.

If you plan ahead, you can allow yourself to do interviews for the first week, then negotiate and sign a contract in the 2nd.
